American film director, producer, and screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola has a net worth of $400 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth.
Francis is auctioning off several of his prized possessions after Megalopolis' box office failure. The director had invested $120 million into the film. Coppola has put up seven timepieces, including seven one-of-a-kind watches valued from $3,000 to $1 million, on the auction site Phillips starting December 6.
The collection also includes a one-of-a-kind timepiece that Coppola designed alongside renowned watchmaker Francois-Paul Journe. The watch features a black titanium human-life hand. While the value of the collection won't make a big dent in the Megalopolis debt, Francis Ford Coppola, during a conversation with the NY Times last week, said,
"I need to get some money to keep the ship afloat."
More about Francis Ford Coppola's wealth
As per Celebrity Net Worth, Francis Ford Coppola has an estimated net worth of $400 million. Coppola has amassed his wealth by making award-winning and high-grossing films.
Francis and his family are also in the winemaking business and own Inglenook Winery. While it is unclear how much the winery is worth, in 2021, Coppola made a deal to sell his other Sonoma County Wineries to Delicato Family Wines, according to the North Bay Business Journal.
In addition to the wineries, Coppola also owns the Presents Lifestyle brand, which includes several hotels and restaurants, as well as the restaurant Cafe Zoetrope.
Coppola released Magalopolis in September 2024 and largely self-financed it. However, the film's box office gross was just $14.4 million. While speaking to the NY Times last week about still having hopes for the film, Coppola said,
"Many of my films earn out over time."
During an appearance on the Tetragrammaton podcast in March 2025, Coppola, while opening up about his loss, said,
"I don't have any money because I invested all the money, that I borrowed, to make 'Magalopolis.' It's bascially gone. I think it'll come back over 15 or 20 years, but I don't have it now."
The film had also faced several setbacks during production, including allegations of inappropriate on-set behavior and multiple crew departures. While Coppola made several efforts to boost the movie after its initial release, including hosting special screenings in San Francisco and across the country, releasing a behind-the-scenes documentary titled Megadoc, and adapting the screenplay into a graphic novel, the film did not meet box-office success expectations.
