Prince's former collaborator, Alexander O’Neal and his wife, Cynthia, were rushed to a hospital after a multi-unit fire broke out in their apartment complex, as reported by TMZ.

According to local television station KARE Channel 11, a fire had erupted at their apartment complex, Willoway Apartments, at 1:15 in the morning, in Burnsville, Minnesota and the couple was hospitalised on Thursday, right after the incident.

One person was treated on the scene while two were rushed to the hospital. A member of their family confirmed them to be Cynthia and Alexander, but did not share their condition.

Alexander O’Neal's career

Born in Natchez, Mississippi, in 1953, Alexander O’Neal brought R&B and funk music to Minneapolis during the 80s, turning it into a major hub for the genres. He settled down in Minneapolis and became the lead singer of Flyte Tyme, a group made up of industry legends, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Jesse Johnson. However, his time with them came to a close when Prince rearranged the group and brought in Morris Day as the new lead singer, and also renamed the group the Time.

But under the Purple Rain singer's guidance, O'Neal went on to have a stellar solo career. He also did a brief stint with his own band called Alexander. After that, Alexander O’Neal signed with Tabu Records, with the help of his old bandmates Jam and Lewis and recorded his first national solo debut. While the album was a success, with the lead single “If You Were Here Tonight” becoming a soul smash hit, it wasn't until his second Tabu album, Hearsay, that he cemented his place in R&B.
