Former WWE champion Bray Wyatt took to professional wrestling much like his father Mike Rotunda. A WWE champion himself, Rotunda had tragically lost his elder son two years ago in 2023. Both of Rotunda's sons, Windham, better known as Bray Wyatt, and Taylor, stage name 'Bo Dallas', went on to pursue professional wrestling and have appeared regularly on WWE's properties. Unfortunately, Wyatt passed away in 2023 due to a heart attack.

WWE's then-chief content officer Triple H was one of the first ones to break the news to the fans on social media. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:

“Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda - also known as Bray Wyatt - unexpectedly passed earlier today. Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time.”

Former women's champion Alexa Bliss (or Lexi Kaufman), icons John Cena and Matt Hardy and ring announcer Lilian Garcia were amongst Wyatt's contemporaries who expressed their condolences online.

In October 2025, Rotunda was earlier said to be checking into hospice care but it has since been clarified by his daughter that he is in a rehabilition center. A statement from his family read:

"He suffered a massive heart attack on September 20, was in a coma for a week, and spent over a month hospitalized. By the grace of God, he has now transitioned to a rehabilitation center, where our family remains present, hopeful, and focused on his recovery."

Wyatt was reportedly suffering from COVID-19 days before he passed away in his sleep due to heart attack. Doctors have since opined that the diagnosis may have aggravated his pre-existing heart condition. His father, Mike, had revealed on the Wrasslin Talk with Mayor McCall podcast, that Wyatt was soon placed on WWE's Legend contract, a posthumous roster honoring their iconic wrestlers. He said, in part:

“It’s been really hard. We miss him every day...”

The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts.

Mike also revealed that Wyatt had plans to marry his longtime girlfriend and ring announcer JoJo.

Last year, Mike shared the reason for Wyatt not being inducted into the Hall of Fame any time soon. In conversation with Sportskeeda, Rotunda said (sic):

“I think WWE reassessed stuff and thought it was too soon to go there with our family and the reactions and the stress on us.”

Mike Rotunda was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, along with Barry Windham. Bray Wyatt is survived by his father Mike Rotunda, brother Taylor and Cadyn & Kendyl Rotunda, his children from his first wife.
