Byshere Gray, who was born on November 28, 1993, to Andria Mayberry, was raised by her as a single mother. He later began his work in entertainment by making his own music, even appearing as the opening act for Grammy-nominated rappers, 2 Chainz and Fabolous.
Byshere Gray shot to fame in 2015 when he was cast in the then-upcoming Fox series Empire, where he starred alongside Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard. In the show, he played the role of the youngest son of Lucious Lyon and Cookie Lyon, who was an up-and-coming rapper. Byshere Gray was praised for his acting and, in 2016, he was nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actor award at the NAACP Awards. He later appeared in other projects like The Sprinter and Canal Street.
His legal troubles began back in 2019 after he was found to be driving without a license. It was also found that the documents he had in his car did not match the registration details. According to Distractify, he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor. In 2020, after he moved out of an apartment he had rented, it was discovered that he had allegedly left the place in a terrible condition, after which the building owners sued him for $26,000. Byshere Gray's manager, Charlie Mac, later released a statement to TMZ, saying:
"Gray was diagnosed with ADHD some years ago and unfortunately this [is] a result of that. He's a great person and it will be taken care of. It will be handled."
He further added:
"There is money inside of his security deposit that should rectify whatever issues the landlord has. [It's] sad that the landlord has chosen this way to handle this but we will do what is needed to make sure it is taken care of."
In the same year, Gray was arrested for reportedly attacking his then-wife, Candace Jimdar. According to reports, Jimdar was able to come out of the couple's then house in Goodyear, Arizona, after which a 911 call was made asking for assistance.
According to People Magazine, Gray had allegedly attempted to strangle her, during which she lost consciousness for a short while. After the police arrived at his house, the actor initially refused to come out but later did so without further incident. He was charged with aggravated assault, along with some other charges that were later dropped as part of his plea agreement.
Byshere Gray pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to ten days in prison, after which he was placed under a three-year probation. In 2022, he was arrested and later released for violating his probation after a woman called the police, claiming she was "concerned for her safety" around him.
According to Distractify, in 2024, Byshere Gray was once again arrested at Hellendale Beach, Florida, for attempting to enter private property without permission. He was later released on the same day after posting bail.
Earlier this year, on June 15, Byshere Gray was arrested in Virginia after he was involved in an altercation with his business partner, Dustin "Chosen" Wilkins. According to TMZ, Gray, who was charged with a misdemeanor, allegedly attacked Wilkins while both of them were in Virginia. He was later bailed out by Wilkins himself, who elaborated that he decided to involve the authorities because he believed that it would provide Byshere Gray with a jumpstart, to restart treatment for his mental health.
It is not known whether Byshere Gray agreed to visit a treatment facility, but according to TMZ, Dustin Wilkins later requested the judge to drop the charges against the actor during his hearing in July.
