At a 9 pm screening of Final Destination: Bloodlines on May 19 at Cinema Ocho in La Plata, the capital city of the Buenos Aires province in Argentina, the theater's ceiling collapsed mid-movie.
The roof of Theater No. 4 let down debris, giving viewers an immersive experience as they watched the sixth and latest installment in the horror movie franchise.
29-year-old Fiamma Villaverde, who was at the screening with her 11-year-old daughter and a friend, while talking to a local outlet in Spanish, said,
"A really loud noise was heard. At first, we thought it was a part of the movie because we were so engrossed; but immediately after a piece of rubble fell on me."
She said the pieces hit her shoulder, back, knee, and ankle. As per social media videos, the incident showed debris from the collapsing ceiling on the movie theatre floor. Since Fiamma was "leaning slightly over the armrest," the debris did not hit her head.
Villaverde had to be taken to the hospital, where it was noted that she sustained bruises from the blow and was asked to visit again in a few days for a back x-ray. Since she had to miss several days of her work due to the injuries, Villaverde mentioned that she plans to file a complaint against the theatre.
"I am undergoing psychiatric treatment and am on medication. I have a hard time being in crowded places. I had not been to the movies in years. I went because it was my birthday and look what happened to me."
