Connor Zilisch won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen on Saturday.

The 19-year-old’s victory, however, ended in an unexpected accident. While celebrating, he fell and injured himself, cutting his celebration short.

The incident happened right after Zilisch took the checkered flag. He was exiting his car when he lost his balance and fell hard to the ground. Medical teams quickly arrived and began treatment.

Zilisch was later taken to the hospital for evaluation. He gave an update on his condition later in the day, confirming that he had suffered a broken collarbone but no head injury.

Connor Zilisch accidentally falls during celebration

Connor Zilisch climbed out of his car after the race ended. He placed his right foot on the roof of the car and his left on the window. As he moved, his feet got caught in the window netting. He slipped and his head hit the pavement.

According to The CW broadcast, Connor Zilisch did not move right after the fall. Track safety crews placed him on a backboard and took him to an ambulance. NBC Sports reporter Dustin Long said Zilisch sat up while inside the ambulance.

NASCAR later said Connor Zilisch was “transported to a local hospital for further evaluation” and was “awake and alert.” The fall meant his post-race celebration ended quickly and raised concerns about his condition.

Medical updates and withdrawal from the Cup Series race

JR Motorsports, Zilisch’s team, provided an update later that day. They said he had been released from the hospital. A few minutes later, Zilisch posted on X (formerly Twitter) to share his own update.

“Thank you everybody for reaching out today,” Zilisch wrote. “I’m out of the hospital and getting better already. Thankfully, CT scans for my head are clear, I just have a broken collarbone. Thankful for all the medics for quick attention and grateful it wasn’t any worse.”

Zilisch was set to drive the No. 87 car for Trackhouse Racing in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen. However, the team later announced it would withdraw from the race. “We wish Connor a speedy recovery,” the team said.
