What happened to Daelena Mackay? NYPD Blue actor Dwayne Adway sues late daughter’s ex over death

Dwayne Adway, famous for his roles in American television shows like Soul Plane, CSI and NYPD Blue, lost his daughter, Daelena Mackay last year in May. Her acting ambition was left incomplete when she was found dead in her Los Angeles apartment. Adway’s daughter was reportedly found hanging by her red scarf in her bathroom, just one month before she turned 21.

According to a report by the Independent, paramedics pronounced Daelena Mackay dead, on May 23, 2024. All attempts made by the paramedics failed to revive Dwayne Adway’s daughter. Police reports, also revealed that Mackay was found unresponsive in her bathroom in El Centro Hollywood, where a man, described as her boyfriend, had made an urgent call to emergency services. Despite his efforts to save her, paramedics arrived to confirm her death shortly after midnight.

In the case of Daelena Mackay, an autopsy was not conducted, as the preliminary external examination and the circumstances surrounding her death were deemed sufficient. However, her father, Dwayne Adway, remained unconvinced about the official explanation for his daughter’s passing. Since then he's voiced concern and has pushed for further scrutiny into the matter.

“I’m trying to apply pressure to the LAPD, They are dead set on staying where they are and not looking more into the case. This seems to be happening a lot in LA with black and brown girls who die and are written off as suicides.” Dwayne shared.

Elaine Mackay, Daelena’s mother, also echoed her husband’s suspicions. According to the grieving mother, her daughter had visible injuries that seemed out of place. She later criticized the decision where an autopsy was not conducted for Daelena. In the report shared by the Independent, Elaine Mackay expands on her suspicions regarding her daughter’s death.

"Her body tells a different story than what police are telling us, with bruises and bleeding from two puncture wounds approximately an inch apart that go from the front of her body straight through to the back and other bleeding," she shared.

Dwayne Adway also shared his frustration over the investigation process.

“All of these findings that I found because I was left no choice but to have to examine her body myself, the county coroner left out of his report. Only toxicology was done by county coroner, no autopsy.” he explained.

Dwayne Adway takes legal action over daughter's death and accuses ex-boyfriend of involvement:

Recently Dwayne Adway, filed a lawsuit against Daelena’s ex-boyfriend. Adway accused, Makar Kirikov for being a part of her death. According to a report by the Daily Mail, Dwayne Adway, also sued the city and county of Los Angeles on multiple regards like negligence, wrongful death, civil rights violations, and failing to train or supervise officers properly.

In the lawsuit filed by Dwayne Adway, he criticized what he believed to be a severe lack of proper investigation into the death of his daughter. He argued that the failure to thoroughly evaluate her death points to a "systemic disregard for properly evaluating suspicious deaths involving young black women."

The lawsuit further claimed that Daelena had been living with Makar Kirikov in their Los Angeles apartment for a year, and during that time she endured multiple instances of domestic violence. According to the lawsuit, Daelena also ended her relationship with Makar in January of that year due to the abuse and had already begun communicating with another romantic partner.

The lawsuit provides more context, as to why Dwayne Adway finds Makar guilty. The night of May 23, 2024, took a tragic turn when Daelena and Makar argued after he reportedly became jealous and agitated. Later that evening, after Makar left the apartment and returned, he found Daelena unresponsive in the bathroom shower.
