As per an article by The Express Tribune published on October 12, legal sources close to the case have noted that Thiam is demanding $100 million as part of the divorce settlement, arguing that she played a major role in building his business empire.

However, as per court documents, Akon allegedly only has $10,000 in his personal bank account, despite having a net worth of $50 million as per Celebrity Net Worth. Netizens took to social media platforms to claim that Akon is allegedly following the footsteps of footballer Achraf Hakimi, who registered his assets in his mother's name.

Akon's divorce battle and proceedings draw a similar comparison to footballer Achraf Hakimi, who went viral in April 2023 for registering his assets under his mother's name to escape a division of assets. His move was described as a "divorce heist" by some media outlets.

When footballer Achraf Hakimi's wife, Hiba Abouk, filed for divorce in April 2023, it was revealed during the proceedings that Hakimi had registered most of his assets in his mother's name. When Abouk sought half of his assets in his name, there were no assets legally in his name.
