Akon is allegedly following Achraf Hakimi's footsteps after the footballer registered his assets in his mother's name.

Internationally renowned R&B singer and producer Akon is in the middle of a legal and financial crisis after his wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed for divorce from the star on September 11, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple shares one child, a 17-year-old daughter, Journey, and Thiam requested joint legal custody.

Thiam also requested spousal support as per court documents viewed by People. As per an article by The Express Tribune published on October 12, legal sources close to the case have noted that Thiam is demanding $100 million as part of the divorce settlement, arguing that she played a major role in building his business empire.

However, as per court documents, Akon allegedly only has $10,000 in his personal bank account, despite having a net worth of $50 million as per Celebrity Net Worth. Netizens took to social media platforms to claim that Akon is allegedly following the footsteps of footballer Achraf Hakimi, who registered his assets in his mother's name.

How is Akon's case similar to Achraf Hakimi's

Akon's divorce battle and proceedings draw a similar comparison to footballer Achraf Hakimi, who went viral in April 2023 for registering his assets under his mother's name to escape a division of assets. His move was described as a "divorce heist" by some media outlets.

When footballer Achraf Hakimi's wife, Hiba Abouk, filed for divorce in April 2023, it was revealed during the proceedings that Hakimi had registered most of his assets in his mother's name. When Abouk sought half of his assets in his name, there were no assets legally in his name.

Media outlets reported that 80% of what Hakimi owned was all registered under his mother's name, including his house, cars, clothes, and jewelry. Millions in salary were also reportedly deposited in his mother's name. Hakimi reportedly earns a monthly salary of $1 million from PSG and is one of the highest-earning footballers. It was reported that if Hiba were to succeed with her claims, she would be potentially awarded a sum of $8.5 million.

His mother, Saida, in an interview with Moroccan media, stated that she was unaware of the action taken by his son to protect his assets. She noted that had Hakimi not transferred his assets to her, he would not have been able to leave Hiba.
