Katie Price revealed that she was taken to the hospital over the weekend over concerns about her continued weight loss. In a Snapchat update, the 47-year-old mother of five had previously discussed her battle with body image, addressed the issues and acknowledged that she doesn't know why she has been losing so much weight.
Price revealed that she went to the hospital to have her stitches taken out of a hand injury she had incurred while cooking, as well as to have some blood tests done. She informed her followers:
"I've been up early at the doctors so she could do some bloods and because my veins are so s*** they had three attempts."
Katie Price added:
"They could only fill two tubes up, so I've got to go back in two weeks."
She clarified that medical professionals were also keeping an eye on her notable weight reduction:
"And I've got to have my stitches out then because they looked at my little stab wound that I did. The reason I'm going to the doctors is because I keep losing weight and I don't know why. So that's that."
Katie Price said a few days prior that she had suffered nerve damage and ripped ligaments after accidentally stabbing her wrist with a knife while making curry. She shared photos of the stitched wound and admitted the injury had left part of her hand numb:
"Last night I accidentally stabbed myself with a knife, you can see on the injury how deep it was, and I had to have stitches."
She added a post on Snapchat with a photo of herself being taken to the Accident and Emergency department with the caption:
"Not what I had on my Bingo card for Friday night."
Fans' and Friends' growing concern
For months, Katie Price's noticeably smaller body has alarmed fans who wonder if her health is at risk. The model acknowledged earlier this year that she had been happy to lose weight following years of weight difficulties associated with injuries and IVF procedures, despite her denials of using weight loss pills. She said:
"Yes I've lost weight. Yes that's what I've wanted to do, I've wanted to lose weight. Because... three, four years ago when I broke my feet I was in a wheelchair for ten months because they said I'd never walk again, and obviously you put weight on being in a wheelchair."
She added:
"And then I did all the IVF stuff, that also puts on weight. So yeah, I did put on weight and I hated it, I felt uncomfortable and it wasn't me."
Despite this, friends and family have expressed their concerns. A source told The Daily Record that Katie Price is going "out of control," due to a series of unpredictable appearances. The source said:
"Katie has been turning up late to events – or not turning up at all – and those close to her are worried that she might be getting out of control. They've witnessed it before. She's trying to do it all, but she's burning herself out. It doesn't seem to be sinking in."
The source continued:
“Katie doesn’t seem to care that she’s not just letting down the venues and the organisers, she’s also letting down her fans who have paid money to come to see her – it’s simply not fair on them."
The source went on to add:
“She doesn’t realise that being this unreliable has consequences, and while punctuality has never been her strong point, it’s not a good look."
The source finally concluded:
“Everyone around her thinks that she needs to focus on herself and get to a good place rather than to continue being on stage and working.”
Katie Price's professional commitments under scrutiny
When Katie Price and her friend Kerry Katona arrived at a live stage performance last week, more than two hours late, the concerns were heightened. Katona had to carry the show alone for the majority of the evening, which was supposed to start at 7:30 p.m. Price reached the venue at 9:35 p.m. and performed for just 35 minutes.
Katie Price attributed the delay to heavy traffic and taking care of her oldest son, Harvey, who has autism and Prader-Willi syndrome, partial blindness and autism. In support of her friend, Kerry said:
"Katie had Harvey at home and a nine-hour drive to get to the show, where the traffic was mental, so I completely understood her being late. She has been on stage and working until silly hours each night so I don’t blame her at all, it was out of her control."
She added:
“Katie has been really reliable the rest of the tour so people need to give her a break. She did the first half of the show virtually, so it’s not like she wasn’t there at all. Lots of people in the audience actually found it quite funny that she was late, too.”
This was the second time that it happened in a span of 48 hours. Katie Price disappointed her fans and came under fire after canceling a charity show at Milton Keynes Pride due to work obligations, only to be seen having a good time at Chloe Ferry's 30th birthday party.
Ongoing personal struggles
Katie Price's ex-husband Peter Andre chastised her on social media in August for spreading "repeated lies" about their kids, Princess and Junior. She had also been accused of dishonesty by her former partner, Alex Reid, who said that, despite her continuous bankruptcy problems, she mismanaged money.
Last year, in an interview with Louis Theroux on his podcast, The Louis Theroux Podcast, she revealed that she was struggling with body issues. She said:
"I always said I haven't got body dysmorphia but there's definitely something, I don't know what it is...I've never looked in the mirror and thought I'm pretty or whatever."
Despite all the criticism, Katie Price continues to attract large audiences to her UK tour with Katona. The duo openly talk about their tumultuous careers, highs of fame, bankruptcies, and personal hardships. The show was called "electric."
