Kevin Durant's recent trade to the Houston Rockets has rekindled his feud with rapper Lil B, also known as The BasedGod. Their feud dates back to 2011 and is well embedded in NBA and rap history. What happened between the two, and how does Durant's transfer to the Houston Rockets reignite the feud?

The feud started in 2011 when Kevin Durant, while playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, called the rapper "wack" in a tweet, saying he couldn't believe people were listening to Lil B. He tweeted in 2011:

"I tried to listen to Lil B and my mind wouldn't let me do it....can't believe this guy is relevant."

The rapper, who is well known for his cult following, creative style, and viral behaviors, took offense.

He responded by threatening to quit rapping if Durant lost a one-on-one basketball match. Durant originally agreed to private messages, but later didn't go through with it. In 2016, Lil B confirmed this on ESPN's "The Jump." This resulted in the notorious "BasedGod's Curse."

Lil B tweeted back then:

“KEVIN DURANT WILL NEVER WIN THE TITLE AFTER HE SAID 'LIL B' IS A WACK RAPPER.”

Whether by his accident or The BasedGod's powers, Durant failed to win a championship for a few seasons. After he was cursed, the following year Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder made it to the finals but lost. Things got weirder when OKC blew a 3-1 lead to Lil B's hometown team, the Golden State Warriors, in the 2016 Western Conference Finals.

Lil B kept taunting Kevin Durant

In a series of tweets, Lil B kept taunting Kevin Durant. He went on a frenzy and tweeted multiple tweets on 1 September, 2012. He tweeted one after the other:

"KD SEEN MY NEW VIDEO AND SEEN I CAN REALLY PLAY NOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED THE GAMES CHANGED NOW IM ONE OF TOP PGS OUT FUCK THAT - Lil B"

Followed by another:

"PEOPLE GET MAD WHEN I GET CLUTCH ON THE COURT ITS ALL FUNNY UNTIL LIL B THROW THAT FLOATER ON YO ASS AND SHUT DOWN D, KD WASUP??? - Lil B"

And another:

"KD WASUP U AINT GON CLEAR ME OUT I BET THAT, SO IT IS WHAT IT IS WHEN U READY U NO WHAT IT IS, BAY AREA COURTS, MY HOME, ALL CLUTCH - Lil B"

He went on to release a diss track as well, two years after the feud started, titled 'F*ck KD'

In the year 2015, when Kevin Durant suffered a career-ending injury, he was asked about their feud, and he replied that it was over. However, Lil B in an interview with TMZ said:

"He’s still under [the Curse]. Everyone who disses Lil B pays for it. He knows the curse is affecting him. Everyone knows. He needs to see me on the court."

In July 2016, Durant shocked the sporting world by signing with the Warriors, the team that had recently beaten him. Lil B lifted the curse, forgave him, and even promised help when he made this choice. He even said that he would cheer on Durant on the sidelines wearing his jersey.

On 4 July, 2016, he tweeted:

"The BasedGod" wants to speak, As life unravels and superstars make decisions that change lifes, welcome home KD the curse is lifted - Lil B"

Kevin Durant went on to lift 2 NBA titles, but this didn't last long as Kevin Durant was again cursed by The BasedGod when he joined the Houston Rockets. He tweeted:

Again, reigniting the feud between them, calling him a 'h*e.' He again challenged him, saying:

“You really a ho, pull up whenever any basketball court on earth im waiting on u.”

To which Durant replied:

"Broke boy asking for a feature in my DM. U wouldn’t be able to get a shot off on me lil one, you was once a thing, I’m still that."

Kevin Durant isn't the only player The BasedGod has cursed

Kevin Durant wasn't the only player who got cursed. In 2015, Lil B cursed James Harden over the now-famous "stirring the pot" celebration, which Lil B claimed he started with his viral "cooking dance." Like Durant, Harden was excluded from the All-NBA team that year and failed to capture the Western Conference trophy while under the alleged influence of the curse.
