Former professional boxer Mike Tyson came down to Jimmy Kimmel Live on November 11. During the conversation, Kimmel jokingly asked if Tyson thought he would still be around after the 80s. The boxer said no, while adding that the '90s were tricky for him.
The show host also mentioned the Jake Paul fight, which Tyson lost. He pulled a video clip from the day where Tyson was seen walking in the locker room, baring his behind. The boxer commented:
“Hey, listen. That's pretty customary. It's just that they happen to take advantage of that situation. All fighters walk around like that in that locker room.”
Jimmy Kimmel noted that he didn’t wear socks and wanted to know the reason behind it. Mike Tyson said that it was mainly because he had foot fungus. He added:
“I only used it for fighting wear. That was my image. Just real hardcore. No socks. And then I discovered I had a very disintegrating dose of foot fungus and it was really bad. It's still bad now. I got it fixed. Come on. I'm serious, man.”
Kimmel jokingly asked if foot fungus was his greatest opponent, and Tyson said he would have to agree to that because the condition still has him having a hard time. The show host then mentioned that Mike Tyson had his first commercial fight in 1985 against Hector Mercedes. Speaking about the fight, Tyson said:
“Well, I was only 18. I was just learning to do this stuff.”
When asked if he was scared at the time, the boxer replied, “To death.”
Mike Tyson on wearing the championship belt and hanging out with celebrities
Kimmel mentioned the time Mike Tyson fought Jamaican boxer Trevor Berbick and even won the heavyweight title. However, when Tyson got the belt, he did not display it but wore it around. Reflecting on that, the boxer said:
“Absolutely. I used to dream about that when I was like a 14 years old. I'm watching a guy wear the belt. I used to dream about being the champ having that belt on my waist.”
Kimmel added:
“And at this time you become so popular and I mean I remember when you were fighting how excited I was to watch you just come out and lay waste to. I mean I felt it felt like I was the one doing it in some ways though I was most certainly not. I played the clarinet.”
Mike Tyson asked Kimmel whether he liked playing the clarinet. Kimmel said that it wasn't a good experience.
When Jimmy Kimmel asked Mike Tyson which celebrities he spent time with after becoming famous, Tyson said he hung out with Michael Anthony Hall, Eddie Murphy, and Rick James.
Kimmel found it surprising that Tyson was friends with Hall, but Tyson explained that he was only about 19 at the time. Once, he was surprised to see Hall use a credit card to pay the bill. He mentioned that before that, he had never seen a credit card.
