Actress Natalie Wood, who passed away in a drowning incident forty-four years ago, in 1981, is now being remembered by her husband, Robert Wagner. According to People Magazine, Wagner took to his Instagram on the occasion of Natalie Wood's death under mysterious circumstances, writing that she will be "forever missed." Natalie Wood drowned during a boating trip with her husband and two other people to the picturesque Santa Catalina Island, located southwest of Los Angeles.

Natalie Wood, whose real name was Natalie Zacharenko, was born on July 20, 1938, in San Francisco to parents of Russian-Ukrainian descent. Wood began her career as a child actress, starring in the 1947 film Miracle on 34th Street. She later transitioned into a teen star, which eventually led to a successful career as an adult actress.

Throughout her career, Wood has been nominated for several awards, most notably for her performances in Splendor in the Grass and Love with the Proper Stranger, for which she received Academy Award nominations for Best Actress. According to People Magazine, at the time of her sudden and tragic death, the Great Race actress was about to finish shooting the 1983 science fiction movie Brainstorm, which was released posthumously after her passing.

More about Natalie Wood's untimely death at the age of forty-three, as her husband Robert Wagner pays her a touching tribute

Natalie Wood married Robert Wagner in 1957. The couple were together for five years but later went their separate ways in 1962. Following this, Wood married film producer Richard Gregson in 1969, with whom she welcomed her first child, a daughter, Natasha Gregson, in 1970.

The couple soon separated after their daughter was born. According to People Magazine, Wood resumed her relationship with Robert Wagner, and the couple remarried in 1972. They later welcomed their first daughter, Courtney Wagner, in 1974, and the couple raised both of Wood's children together.

In his post shared on Instagram on Saturday, November 29, the Hart to Hart actor posted a throwback picture of himself and Natalie Wood, writing:

“Thinking of Nat today. Her warmth, beauty, and love remain with us through our children and grandchildren. Forever missed, forever cherished. More than love."

According to People Magazine, the Meteor actress was on a Thanksgiving Day trip with Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken. The trio was accompanied by Dennis Davern, the captain of the couple's private yacht, named Splendour. The exact details surrounding her death are not known, but according to Robert Wagner's memoir, Pieces of My Heart, he found the Rebel Without a Cause actress missing when he came to the couple's room at night, after she had retreated early. The authorities launched an extensive search for Wood, during which the small boat she had allegedly used to leave the yacht was found.

Her lifeless body was later found early morning the next day, on November 29, 1981, and her death was initially ruled accidental. Decades later, in 2011, the case was reopened after Dennis Davern came forward with new details regarding the incident. Authorities later established that Natalie Wood's death was a result of "drowning and other undetermined factors." In 2018, Robert Wagner was named as "a person of interest" in the case, thirty-seven years after the incident. This development came after new witnesses came forward alleging that he and Wood had allegedly fought on the night of her death.

However, in 2022, Robert Wagner, who has long denied any involvement, was cleared from the person of interest list by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He and Natalie Wood's two children have consistently maintained that the cause of her death was accidental.
