American soccer player Savannah DeMelo is currently making headlines following her collapse on the field during a match on September 14, 2025. The 27-year-old DeMelo, who plays for Racing Louiseville FC as a midfielder, is now in stable condition. However, her fans and the netizens are curious to know what happened to DeMelo.

Born in 1998 in Bellflower, California, Savannah DeMelo previously played for the USC Trojans before joining Racing Louisville FC as a midfielder in 2022. On September 14, DeMelo collapsed on the field during a match against Seattle Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League at Lumen Field in Seattle, as per BBC. Just a couple of minutes into the match, DeMelo was spotted sitting down during the game, while her teammates rushed to check on her.

According to Reuters, her trainers were called on the field as soon as she collapsed, after which she was taken to a local hospital. The National Women's Soccer League released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on September 15, 2025, regarding the matter, which read:

In March 2025, Racing Louisville FC midfielder DeMelo faced a similar situation when she was taken out of a game against Bay FC due to experiencing chest tightness and dizziness. DeMelo later informed that she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and hyperthyroidism. During an interview with ESPN in May 2025, DeMelo said:

"Playing a 90-minute game felt unbearable. I would get to maybe the 25th minute, and I felt like my heart was just like beating so fast, like out of my chest. I felt so out of breath, so out of shape. I didn’t really know what was going on."

The Seattle Reign FC took to their X handle and shared a statement regarding DeMelo's collapse, and wrote:

"Sending all our love to Savannah DeMelo and everyone at Racing Lou FC. We stand side by side with Louisville during this time and thank our fans for their support."
