Broadcaster and ‘Today’ host Savannah Guthrie will be taking a break from her show. On December 19, while on the show, she mentioned that her voice had been “scratchy.” Not only that, but it had started to crack. She said she had developed vocal nodules and a condition called a polyp. Guthrie added:
“It’s not a big big deal, but I am going to have a surgery real early in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks so it’s my last day for a little while. So, I just want to let everyone know and if you have been wondering like, do I have the world’s longest head cold? No, I don’t.”
She went on to say:
“But, you'll love this, guys. I have to be silent for a couple of weeks. Totally silent. I know the jokes write themselves.”
Savannah Guthrie jokingly said that Christmas was coming early for her family. Co-host Sheinelle Jones said that she also went through the same medical procedure. She then gifted a while board to Guthrie, saying it might come in handy during her recovery period. Jones said:
“I will tell you the silver lining of it is so you do the surgery in and out and it's no big deal. The silver lining is you have permission to be still. The house gets quiet. The kids are going to want to help you out.”
Savannah Guthrie said she was excited about it as she has been dealing with it for years. Jones joked that she might end up singing like Celine Dion.
Savannah Guthrie looks back on her engagement day
Guthrie is married to communications consultant Michael Feldman. During her appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in February 2025, the host said that she met her husband on his 40th birthday. She said that she wasn’t invited to the birthday and was just a “party-crasher.” She said:
“I met him and he walked me to the door. I didn't even stay very long and yeah, and then, he like emailed me a couple days later.”
Kelly Clarkson asked if it was true she broke up with her husband the day they got engaged. Savannah Guthrie said yes, while adding:
“Actually, no, fact check, I did break up with him the day that we got engaged.”
She said at that point they had been dating for over five years. Guthrie remembered:
“So we had this trip planned. I certainly did not think we were getting engaged, because when you've been dating for 5 1/2 years, you no longer think a trip to the beach is the day.”
Savannah Guthrie said she told her husband that they had been together for a long time and needed to call off their relationship. Feldman said they should just enjoy the day. After spending the day, she thought about whether she had made the right decision. They went to the bar in the evening, and he asked Savannah Guthrie to marry him.
