Sofia Vergara, who was one of the presenters for this year's Emmy Awards, opened up about why she was not seen on the red carpet or on the stage of the much-anticipated award show. According to People Magazine, the Modern Family actress had been admitted to the hospital during the event, as she was suffering from what Sofia Vergara called the "craziest eye allergie."

It was not just Sofia Vergara who was missing from the previously announced list of presenters. Actor Eric Dane, who had announced earlier this year in April that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also did not attend the Emmy Awards, though the reason for his absence has not yet been disclosed.

More about why Sofia Vergara was unable to make it to this year's Emmy Awards

Sofia Vergara took to her Instagram on Sunday, 14 September, to update her fans, as many were wondering why she did not present the awards this year. In her post, she explained that just before she was set to leave for the ceremony, she discovered that she had developed an infection in her right eye. The actress said:

"Didn't make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER 🤣😩. Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye allergie ight before getting in the car! 🤣🤣."

Vergara also shared several pictures from the hospital, with one of them showing the progression of her eye infection, and another where fans can see her lying on a hospital bed.

According to reports, Sofia Vergara had been seen at the highly anticipated fight between Terence Crawford and Canelo Álvarez on September 13. The Netflix-organized match saw the actress visiting the Mexican boxer in his locker room to show support ahead of his bout.

Meanwhile, the Emmy Awards saw Angela Bassett, Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, Colman Domingo, Elizabeth Banks, Mariska Hargitay, and many others present the awards throughout the night. Sterling K. Brown, who presented the Award for Best Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, along with James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson, did so in an unconventional manner.

According to People Magazine, the actor, who was himself nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series, for his role as Xavier Collins in the Hulu series, Paradise, had torn his Achilles heel just a week earlier and therefore had to enter the stage on a scooter to support his leg.
