WWE icon Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71.
TMZ Sports has reported that first responders were dispatched to Hogan’s home in Clearwater, Florida, early Thursday morning. They were acting on reports of someone suffering a “cardiac arrest.” A fleet of cop cars and EMTs was reportedly stationed outside his house as he was transported into an ambulance on a stretcher.
The professional wrestler and entertainer, born Terry Bollea, reportedly had a net worth of $25 million, Celebrity Net Worth has reported. Apart from his career in wrestling, he was an established actor and reality television star in his own right.
Per the outlet, his net worth includes his settlement from Gawker.com, which was initially $140 million but came down to $31 million after taxes. It also accounts for a significant portion of his fortune went to his wife, Linda Hogan, in their 2007 divorce.
At the time, Tucson reported that his net worth was $32 million, as seen in the financial affidavits filed in court. Linda was ultimately granted over 70% of her shared liquid assets with Hulk Hogan, $3 million to incur property settlements, and a 40% ownership stake in all of his business ventures.
Here's what we know so far about Hulk Hogan's death
As reported by The New York Post, Hulk Hogan rose to fame in the 1980s due to his “Hulkamania” persona. He is largely credited with establishing the WWE’s success nationally.
As of this writing, further details about his demise remain unclear. However, Penn Live reported just last month that the wrestling juggernaut had undergone surgery for neck and back issues, a month after he had already undergone surgery for his neck. At the time, TMZ reported that he was hospitalized for the same.
Radio host Bubba the Love Sponge said on his show that same week:
“It’s not good. I got some pretty reliable information last night that there are phone calls being made to various family members about getting to town to come say your goodbyes,” he said. “So listen, I don’t know this to be true -- rumor has it, word on the street... allegedly Hogan is in the hospital and I’ve heard people say that he might not make it.”
However, TMZ clarified at the time that Hulk Hogan was not in such rough shape. The outlet cited a representative who affirmed Hogan was not close to death. The spokesperson also said that Hogan had been dealing with the same issues he had been for years and that he was already walking around.
