Actor Jeremy Renner has reportedly turned down his role in the second season of the action-drama series "Hawkeye." According to several news outlets, the High Performance app interviewed the actor, who shared his reasons for rejecting the role. Renner revealed that he was offered half of what he was paid in the series' first season. He said:

“They asked me to do a season two and they offered me half the money. And I am like, wow, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money. And so eight months of my time essentially and I have to do it for half the amount.”

Jeremy Renner has a net worth of $80 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth. He went on:

“I am like I am sorry. Why did you think I am only half to Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made in the first season. And this is not Marvel. This is just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers.”

Jeremy Renner shared that he disagreed with the offer, found it insulting, and chose to walk away from the deal. Although he still cared deeply for the character and would have loved to continue in the role, he felt the need to stand up for himself.

He clarified that he didn't ask for more money, only to be paid the same amount he received in the first season. While he found the situation disappointing, he ultimately accepted it and let it go, noting that stepping away was probably a relief for his body in the long run.

Jeremy Renner on his recovery and returning to work

Jeremy Renner was seriously injured when a 14,000-pound Snowcat plow ran over him near his home in Lake Tahoe in 2023. The accident left him with over 35 broken bones, several titanium implants, and a long, challenging recovery process. According to the Independent, Renner shared that he didn't have the strength to take on acting roles at that time. He focused on recovering and staying mentally and physically strong, which required significant effort.

He explained that maintaining a positive mindset and making daily progress was already a significant challenge, so stepping into fictional roles felt overwhelming and difficult for him to manage. On May 1, 2025, Jeremy Renner sat down for an interview with The View. When asked about his return to acting, he said:

“It's great to be back out in the world and I love recovery. I love my mental health and physical wellness and all that is a central part of my life now. And it's great because I am 54 and it's important to be able to do that but it's also nice to not have that be 24 hours a day.”

Jeremy Renner expressed that he felt grateful to be working and able to keep pushing himself physically. He appreciated spending time with people he cared about. He said the experience of nearly dying and surviving taught him valuable life lessons, and although he had never lived with regrets before, going through that experience confirmed that he had none. He also mentioned feeling a sense of peace and even excitement about letting go and feeling relieved.
