Last Week Tonight's host, John Oliver, reportedly took home the Emmy in the Outstanding Scripted Variety Series Category. According to E! Online, a part of Oliver's was bleeped as he took a playful jab at host Nate Bargatze. The news outlet reported that Nate implemented a creative strategy for keeping acceptance speeches to a designated time limit.
The stand-up comedian revealed he would deduct $1,000 from his donation to the Boys & Girls Club of America for every second if the speech extended more than 45 seconds.
John Oliver reportedly understood the assignment and sped through his acceptance speech. After expressing gratitude towards HBO, his wife, and children, he didn't forget to mention Nate's condition and how much money he contributed to the cause. The part was reportedly beeped since Oliver used an expletive. Before exiting the stage, he said,
"“F**k you Nate Bargatze, that is a lot of money for you and you can add a f**k to the swear jar as well.”

John Oliver's acceptance speech beeped at the Primetime Emmy Awards

John Oliver continues to bag Emmy awards for HBO's Last Week Tonight. He reportedly took the risk of his speech being beeped for amicably aiming at Nate Bargatze's acceptance speech strategy. Nate pledged to donate $100,000 Boys & Girls Club of America and noted that he would raise $1,000 for every second saved in the acceptance speech.
Nate noted,
“If you stay 45 seconds, it stays at $100,000. It’s brutal. What you gonna do though? I can’t change it. This is a game I made up and these are the rules.”
John Oliver was one of the awardees who kept their speeches well under the 45 second window. On the contrary, some other awardees went above the time limit, leading to overall deductions in the pledged amount. However, with the support of CBS, Nate was able to raise $350,000 by the end of the Awards function.
John's acceptance speeches reportedly are not unfamiliar with expletives, and he doesn't shy away from speaking his mind. E! Online noted that during his acceptance speech for the 2024 Emmy Awards, when he was expressing gratitude towards his dog, sentimental music was cued in the background. He said,
"F--k you! I feel like Sarah McLaughlan right now."
John Oliver's Emmy win comes a few days after he reportedly ridiculed recent exchanges between POTUS Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
