Fox News contributor Kat Timpf, during an appearance on the late-night political comedy show, Gutfeld! expressed her disbelief at Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad outrage. Timpf was on a weeks-long break as she underwent surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kat Timpf, while responding to the backlash, said that people were overreacting,

"I have such a hard time believing that this controversy is real. And if you really are upset by this, then I genuinely feel sadness for you."

She then went on to explain how the media was covering the controversy using headlines such as "Everything We Know", which Kat Timpf believes is used "usually when we're talking about some kind of horrific contagion.

Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle ad campaign promoted the limited launch of the wide-legged "The Sydney Jean." In one of the videos for the campaign, Sydney can be seen cleaning off a poster of herself wearing a denim jacket and jeans, with the phrase printed out, "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Genes."

Sydney crosses out the last word and replaces it with Jeans. The incident was supposed to be a clever play on puns. However, according to a report in the Independent, the ad received backlash since the phrases "good genes" and "great genes" have historically been used in the language of eugenicists, who promote the idea of selective breeding. American Eagle had released a statement to address the backlash on Instagram, saying,

"Sydney Sweeney HAS Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans, her story."

"Lots of people are Republicans" - Kat Timpf reacts to Sydney Sweeney's political leanings

Buzzfeed News, in an August 2 article, revealed that Sydney is a registered Republican, as per publicly available voter registration records. Kat Timpf, while reacting to Sydney's political leanings, said,

"Who cares? Lots of people are Republicans, and it shouldn't be that groundbreaking to find out that somebody who's wealthy, especially, is a Republican."

Sydney has been registered to the Republican Party of Florida since June 2024, months before Donald Trump won the presidential elections.

Earlier, Donald Trump praised and defended Sydney after a reporter told him about Sydney being a registered Republican,

"You'd be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That's what I wouldn't have known, but I'm glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic."

White House communications director Steven Chung and Vice President JD Vance had also defended the actress. Sydney's birthplace, Spokane, has also voted Republican in nearly every presidential election since 1948.
