80s icon Kate Bush suddenly came into the limelight after her 1985 song “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” was used in the 4th season of the Netflix original hit series Stranger Things. And now that the global phenomenon creating show is back for its final season, so is Bush.
The English singer had been away from the spotlight since her last album, 50 Words for Snow, in 2011. However, it seems that she is now done with her hiatus and is back to making new music. Her song “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) was the song of the summer in 2022 and reached 1 billion streams on Spotify and topped the Billboard Global 200 chart. And in a very tubular manner, the singer posted on her blog,
“[The song] is being given a whole new lease of life by the young fans who love the show.”
For her impact in music, Kate Bush was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023. She released a statement of gratitude on her blog,
“I am completely blown away by this huge honour — an award that sits in the big beating heart of the American music industry. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. I never imagined I would be given this wonderful accolade."
This year again, just before the show released the first part of season 5, the song started climbing the charts again and has reached 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.
Where is Kate Bush now?
But that was not the end, as the Army Dreamer singer worked on quite a few new projects, including writing and directing an animated short film in 2024 called Little Shrew. The film was backed by her song Snowflake and was created to raise money for children affected by war.
On her blog she said,
“I love being creative in the visual medium as well as in audio. Working directly with the animators has been surprisingly similar in many ways to working with musicians, where you are creating through someone else’s hands.”
Kate Bush likes to dip her toes in different artistic mediums, as she received two 2025 Grammy Award nominations, Best Boxed or Special Edition Package for the Hounds Of Love, the Boxes of Lost at Sea and Best Recording Package for the Hounds Of Love, The Baskerville Edition. In fact, she collaborated with her son on both of these projects. She even participated in a silent album recently, along with hundreds of artists, as a protest against AI.
In 2024, Kate Bush expressed interest in making new music when she told BBC Radio 4’s Today program that she feels the need to “start doing something new” in the music space.
