Talking to PEOPLE magazine, the 46-year-old actress revealed her new passion. She expressed that she was inspired by Emily, the character she plays in Netflix’s A Man on the Inside, who is "finding her new passion in life, which is nice because I think that's important, especially as a woman in her 40s."

She added, "It’s like, who am I? What am I still into? And for me it's kickboxing. I do kickboxing with my friend Kendra Smith, who also did stunts. So, we do a lot of fun stunt things."

Mary Elizabeth Ellis stated she had started about "about 5 or 6 years ago."

Adding, "I probably think I'm better at stunts than I actually am, but I enjoy it."

Ellis, who is married to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Charlie Day, often posts updates about her kickboxing journey. In one of her posts, she wrote,

"I love my #kickboxing training with @realkendrasmith so much that I’ll do it through a hard core cold. And It’s good when you’re trainer is fast enough to miss your wild backhand when you’re supposed to be hook kicking. (3rd try) Now I’m gonna kick this cold’s ass with steroids and antibiotics after a week of all things herbal. #training #kickboxing #fightacold #lovefighters #hookkick ps- deleting any comments by douchebags who feel they need to give me training advice because 🙄 don’t"

Mary Elizabeth Ellis on Man on the Inside Season 2

While talking about her character’s journey, she reflected on how in,

"Season 1 was really about her taking care of her dad. He lost his partner that he had been with forever, and she was really concerned that her dad lost himself in that."

But now that Emily's character has evolved as the show progresses, Mary Elizabeth Ellis added,

"In season 2, she starts to look at herself a little bit more in her own grief, like what she's going through, and so I get to work on healing myself a little bit more in the season."

Besides Mary Elizabeth Ellis, the cast includes Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, Gary Cole, Michaela Conlin, Lisa Gilroy, Madison Hu, and more.

Danson, who is known for his role in The Good Place, also spoke to PEOPLE about a late-in-life hobby he picked up.

"I picked up a new hobby of doing a podcast with my friend Woody Harrelson. We've done about 150 episodes. I really enjoy talking to people that I wouldn't have had the nerve to go talk to at a party or whatever." Ted refers to his podcast, Everybody Knows Your Name.

Season 2 of the show premiered on November 20.
