Lionel Messi's career kicked off when he, as a teenager, started playing for Barcelona, a journey that came to an end in August 2021. In 2017, Lionel signed a contract with Barcelona that paid him a base salary of $168 million. In January 2021, Spanish newspaper El Mundo published the leaked contract details of the player, revealing that under his previous contract, his annual base salary was $44.68 million.

After Messi signed with Paris Saint-Germain in August 2021, his contract was a two-year deal, which made him $75 million before taxes. Furthermore, he earns an additional $70 million per year from endorsements and has a lifetime endorsement contract signed with Adidas, a relationship that began after he switched from Nike at the age of 24

In May 2023, word went around that Messi was about to sign a $1 billion contract with an unnamed Saudi Pro League team, with reports suggesting a salary of $400 million per season.

Instead, he chose to join Inter Miami in June 2023, a club co-owned by the David Beckham American franchise. As per the deal, Messi would be paid a salary of $1.03 million per week or $54 million a year, over four years. Later, it was revealed that Messi's Inter Miami contract pays him $60 million per year in salary, along with a 10% stake in the team. Inter Miami has been valued at $2 billion.

Additionally, he also works with Hard Rock International hotels and Luxury watchmaker Jacob & Co. His other collaborations include Mastercard, Budweiser beer, BYJU's, and Socios.com.

Messi had also commercially introduced his own sports drink called Mas+ in 2025 and his clothing line, The Messi Store, which he launched in 2019. The 38-year-old has also amassed his net worth through investments and other business ventures.
