Jamaican-born British actor Micheal Ward has been released on bail after being charged with five offenses that include three relating to sexual assault and two to rape. The case stems from events that took place in 2023 and is connected to one woman.
He has not yet given a plea and was given conditional bail after he showed up at the Thames Magistrates’ Court in London on August 28. The condition of his bail includes an order not to contact the woman linked to the charges.
Micheal Ward denies the charges against him
After Micheal Ward was charged with rape and sexual assault charges in July, the actor dismissed the charges through a statement reported by The Guardian:
"I deny the charges against me entirely. I have cooperated fully with the police throughout their investigation and will continue to cooperate."
He further added:
"I recognise that proceedings are now ongoing, and I have full faith that they will lead to my name being cleared. Given those proceedings, I am unable to comment further."
His case files and evidence were reviewed by Catherine Baccas, deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London South, who permitted police to charge Ward. The judges have not yet taken his plea as of August 28, and the case will continue at the upcoming hearing.
She also appealed for no online sharing of the details of the case or reporting that could impact the case in any way. In a reported statement, Metropolitan Police Det. Supt. Scott Ware, while talking about the woman, said:
"Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who has come forward - we know investigations of this nature can have significant impact on those who make reports."
Micheal Ward has appeared in many famous movies and TV series, including Top Boy, Empire of Light, The Old Guard, and Blue Story. This year, he appeared in a movie titled Eddington, where he played the role of Michael Cooke.
According to IMDb, he is also set to appear in an upcoming project, Uncle. However, the final release date has yet to be confirmed.
Ward has also won a BAFTA Award and an NME Award, and has been nominated for the National Film Awards UK and the RTS Programme Awards in the past.
Micheal Ward's next court hearing is scheduled on September 25 at the Snaresbrook Crown Court, London.
