The 12-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte announced his new tell-all memoir on December 9. Lochte mentioned in an Instagram reel that he has written the memoir "after lots of healing and growing."

"I am so excited to announce that I have decided to write a book! After lots of healing and growing, I finally have the confidence I lost so long ago to give you a real look inside what it was like being Ryan Lochte."

Lochte is best known for his specialization in backstroke and individual medley. He has won a total of 90 medals in major international competitions, including 54 gold, 22 silver, and 14 bronze.

Lochte opened up about the Rio scandal during the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, and that he was at the "lowest point" with a son on the way.

"Aftter the Rio scandal, I found myself at my lowest point, with a son on the way with someone I barely knew, who constantly reminded me that he would be forever disappointed in the father I had become."

At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Lochte falsely claimed that he and his teammates were robbed at gunpoint. After an investigation by Brazilian authorities, it was found that the swimmers had actually vandalized a gas station bathroom. Lochte was charged by the Rio police for falsely reporting a crime. While Lochte had apologized at the time, he lost four major sponsorships.

More about Ryan Lochte's family

While Ryan Lochte did not mention names in his Instagram post caption, he opened up about family members who belittled him and reminded him of his failures.

"Every day, I woke up to be belittled and reminded of my constant failures, day in and day out, until I was eventually kicked out of our family home. The only thing I ever wanted as a family and to become a father, only to have failed at that aas well."

Ryan Lochte and his estranged wife, Kayla Reid Lochte, share three children: Caiden Zane, Live Rae, and Georgia June. Kayla filed for divorce from Lochte in March 2025, and Lochte went public with his new girlfriend, Molly Gillihan, amid their divorce battle.

Lochte mentioned that his life is "finally being restored" and that he is now surrounded by positive influences that inspire him every day. He concluded the caption by thanking his fans.

A release date for the memoir remains unknown.
