Randy Boone, the actor and singer best known for his role on The Virginian, has died at the age of 83. Boone was a familiar face on American television during the 1960s and 1970s.

His first screen role was as Vern Hodges in the 1962–1963 NBC comedy-drama It's a Man's World. He played a guitarist from North Carolina, which connected well to his own musical background. This role helped him enter television and prepared him for a long career.

Boone went on to act in several TV shows, Westerns, and films across three decades. He also used his musical talents in many of his acting roles. His ability to blend acting with music became a strong part of his career identity.
