Quavo or Quavious Keyate Marshall's Rocket Foundation, as per the organization's website, is an Atlanta-based foundation "committed to ending gun violence in America." The foundation was founded by the American rapper and singer in 2022 to honor the life and legacy of Kirsnick Khari Ball, who died on November 1, 2022, from gunshot wounds.
Marshall, along with his Rocket Foundation, has launched a trauma therapy fund to support family members directly affected by the Atlanta shooting last weekend. Last weekend over 47 people were shot and 5 were killed in Atlanta. Two of the victims, Deshawn Johnson, a 2024 Rocket Camper, and "Coach Ball," leader of the Offenders Alumni Association, who were involved with the foundation, were directly killed.
The Rocket Foundation trauma fund will provide trauma expert therapeutic services for children and families and support grantee organizations, Hope Hustlers and Offenders Alumni. The Rocket Foundation took to Instagram to announce the trauma fund, noting,
"After the tragic weekend in Atlanta, where at least 49 people were shot, including the tragic loss of Rocket Foundations 2024 Rocket Camper Deshawn Cooper and Rocket Spark grantee leader of Offenders Alumni Association, Coach Ball, Rocket Foundation is creating an emergency trauma therapy fund for the youth and families impacted."
More about Quavo's Rocket Foundation
Quavo founded the Rocket Foundation in 2022 to honor the legacy of gun violence victim Kirsnick Khari Ball. The foundation's website, "rocket-foundation.org" mentions the reason behind choosing Atlanta for their base,
"Atlanta is among the top U.S cities affected by gun violence, but its community violence intervention programs are underfunded relative to other major cities. Our goal is to help close that gap, and to go beyond by making Atlanta a model for other U.S cities when it comes to gun violence reduction."
Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, as per 11Alive, had confirmed that the hospital staff had treated nearly 50 people who'd been shot from 24th to 28th July. By July 28, Atlanta had recorded a 16% rise in homicides. As per Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, three men and a woman are suspected of initiating the shootout. Schierbaum also noted,
"Gun violence affects every single citizen of Atlanta, regardless of what neighborhood you live in, and where you are and this weekend when we saw individuals who are angry about everyday common matters pick up a gun and use it, it speaks to the work that needs continued to be done"
The foundation noted that Atlanta is also the city where founder Quavo, along with Takeoff and Offset, founded their rap group, Migos. Quavo and his foundation were honored with the Humanitarian of the Year Award at Variety's 2024 Hitmakers event.
