What role did Taylor Swift play in Simu Liu's engagement to Allison Hsu? Marvel star reveals an unexpected assist

Simu Liu made his proposal to Allison Hsu unforgettable with a little help from Taylor Swift.

Appearing on the Dec. 15 episode of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Shang-Shi star told the celebrity host that he coordinated with the pop superstar's team to orchestrate a special surprise for his now-fiancée.

"I'll preface this by saying my fiancée works in music, so she's a digital marketing executive, and she grew up a Swiftie."

The Marvel actor continued, revealing that Taylor Swift's music has been a core part of his relationship with Allison Hsu from the get-go.

"She loves Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift’s songs and her music, that was a big part of the beginning of our relationship. I was getting to know her through those songs and why they meant so much to her. I was like, 'Well, if there is one person who could make this engagement so special,' and I reached out as if we are BFFs."

Simu Liu clarified that he isn't part of the Eldest Daughter hitmaker's inner circle, although he noted that he had met the singer a couple of times. Those few meetings encouraged him to reach out to Taylor Swift to ask her for a little help to pull off his marriage proposal.

"I did reach out to Taylor through her publicist and said, 'Hey, is there any way I could convince you to make, like, a two second video just to say congrats?' She literally, two days later, sent it over and I was able to play it for her. Taylor Swift was the cherry on top!"

Simu Liu proposed to Allison Hsu in Paris

Simu Liu went on to reveal that the Taylor Swift-assisted surprise took place in Paris during the couple's trip. The actor detailed getting down on his knee before Allison Hsu on a rooftop with a view of the Eiffel Tower.

"I was in London shooting the Avengers movie … But we decided to take a weekend to go to Paris, which I think she suspected something. She asked me if she should get her nails done, which is kind of code."

Still, the surprises didn't stop. Apart from the pop icon's congratulatory message, Simu Liu revealed he flew their loved ones there, too, to witness the special moment, which ultimately moved Allison Hsu to tears.

"She saw it coming, but she didn’t know I flew a bunch of our best friends and her brother, who lives in Chicago, and her sister, who lives in Kenya, and got them all to come in. When I led her up on the rooftop, they were all there."

"From weekends in Paris, day trips to Palm Springs, long nights on set, afternoons vegging on the couch and everything in between, I choose you forever and always."
