⁠What did Savannah Guthrie ask Khloé Kardashian in 2012? Reality TV star appreciates the Today show co-host’s apology over embarrassing question

On the Andy Cohen show, Savannah Guthrie opened up about her most embarrassing moment on TV, which included Khloé Kardashian. Back in 2012, Guthrie had questioned the reality star about rumours involving her late father, Robert Kardashian Sr.

Guthrie, who had just joined as a co-host on The Today Show, urged Khloé to address longstanding rumours that Robert Kardashian Sr. was not her real father during her appearance on the show in February 2012. Neither of them was comfortable with the question, which happened right before a commercial break:

“I asked Khloé Kardashian, like, 10 seconds before we were going to break about the rumors that her father wasn’t her father. That was so bad."

She had asked the question:

"So at the very end we were like, ‘And Khloé, like, what about this rumor that Robert Kardashian’s not really your father?’ And they were like, ‘10, nine, eight…’ and I was so embarrassed.”

At the time, Khloé jokingly laughed and replied:

"I don't know who my daddy is."

She added how Khloé was a 'class act' with her response:

“And she was such a class act. She was like, ‘Ah, nothing to it.’ We made the break. I asked the question, Khloé was a total class act.”

Guthrie admits that she regretted asking the question, calling it a "career low."

Despite the uncomfortable situation, Khloé said she had forgiven and appreciated Guthrie's immediate acknowledgement of her fault. Talking about Guthrie, she commented on the E News! Kards Katch Up Instagram page:

"She’s a doll! It takes a big person to take accountability and I just love her! ❤️❤️❤️ 👑👑👑👑.”

Why was the question controversial?

Robert Kardashian's ex-wives, Jan Ashley and Ellen Pearson, alleged that Robert had told them that Khloé Kardashian might not be his real daughter, which sparked the paternity rumours in late 2011.

His second ex-wife, Jan Ashley, told Star magazine:

"Khloé is not his kid – he told me that after we got married. He just kind of looked at me and said [it] like it was a matter of fact. He said, ‘Well, you know that Khloé’s not really a Kardashian, don’t you?'"

Not just Jan Ashley but even his third wife, Ellen, told Star:

“Khloé brought it up all the time. She looked nothing like the rest. She was tall, had a different shape, light hair, curly hair. Didn’t look anything like the other three children.”

This came after Kris Jenner, Khloé's mother, had revealed that she was involved in an affair when she was married to Robert in her memoir, Kris Jenner and All Things Kardashian, in 2011.

Rumors circulated that the American professional football player, actor, and media personality O.J. Simpson was Khloé Kardashian's biological father, which both have denied multiple times. Back in December 2022, on the podcast Full Send, Simpson said:

"The rumor ain't true. It's not even anywhere close to being true."

Back in 2019, he denied it on X, writing:

“Khloe, like all the girls, I’m very proud of, just like I know Bob would be if he was here. The simple facts of the matter is she is not mine.”

Simpson has denied the rumors time after time, but he admitted that he found Kris Jenner attractive back then.

Khloé Kardashian's relationship with her father

Khloé Kardashian often speaks about her close relationship with Robert Kardashian Sr., who passed away from esophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59. She recounted how difficult it was to talk about his passing during the first season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians on her Khloé in Wonderland podcast earlier this year:

“I was like, ‘Why are they making me sit in this dark room and talk about something I don’t wanna talk about?'"

She added:

“It was as if a house got lifted off of me after that conversation ... that was the last time that I cried when talking about my dad, in a bad way.”
