In the final season of Stranger Things, Noah's character, Will Byers, comes out to his friends and family. The reason why Schnapp cried while reading the scene is that he said the co-creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, "wrote it so perfectly."

In his words:

"I was nervous... I was like, 'How are they going to write that?' But I read it, and I just cried reading it, and I was like, 'This is perfect. They did it.' There's no notes... They told me they went to some queer family and friends to help understand how to do it right."

Noah added that he was impressed with how they managed to keep Will Byer's monologue "true to life" and relatable to Will. Back in season 4, Will's sexual orientation was confirmed, but his character was struggling with it.

Noah Schnapp also shared another reason he was worried about this scene. He said:

"I would say I was a little nervous about everyone individually standing up, and I was like, 'Is that going to be weird?' But then, in the moment, everything just [felt] so real and it felt so just natural, and it worked."

During the particular scene, he was surrounded by his onscreen brother, Charlie Heaton, who plays the role of Jonathan, as well as his friends, Lucas, Dustin, Mike, and Eleven.

He also added that he was happy that the canon event in Will's character did not just turn into a "sob fest."

The confession in the show was caused by a vision that Vecna showed Will. According to the vision, he was going to end up lonely and alone if he ever came out to his friends.

Noah Schnapp shared how emotional and meaningful Will Byers’ coming-out scene was for him. He praised the Duffer Brothers for writing it in a honest and respectful way. Schnapp himself came out to the world two years ago, in a TikTok video.
