Fox News host Tomi Lahren is seemingly under fire for her comments about Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny. On October 1, Lahren sat down with commentator Krystal Ball on her show, Tomi Lahren Is Fearless. At one point during the conversation, Lahren asked Ball if Bad Bunny was a good choice for the 2026 Super Bowl.

Krystal Ball replied:

“I'm not that like knowledgeable about him, but it seems fine and I don't know why it's a big deal. Seems like a great American artist, so sure.”

Lahren interrupted and said:

“He's not an American artist, but.”

Ball corrected her, saying:

“He’s Puerto Rican. That's part of America, dear.”

Her comment drew criticism from social media users and other commentators as well. For instance, during a conversation on CNN, commentator Maria Cardona said:

“My first reaction was she needs to crack a book and I think it is important that we are talking about this, Jake, because a lot people don’t understand that Puerto Rico is part of the United States.”

An X user @maddenifico shared the clip from the talk show, writing:

“White supremacist and apologist for the fascist authoritarian Trump regime, Tomi Lahren, refused to recognize that Bad Bunny is an American for no other reason than he is Puerto Rican. We can no longer ignore what we are witnessing every day: This is who these mother**kers are.”

Tomi Lahren asked Krystal Ball if she had any issues with Bad Bunny criticizing ICE and saying he wouldn’t perform in the U.S. because of immigration problems. Krystal replied that most Americans likely agreed with him since many had seen videos showing ICE officers being too harsh, even hurting elderly people, and believed the agency had gone too far.

Bad Bunny on performing and holding on to his Puerto Rican roots

During an interview with i-D magazine in September 2025, Bad Bunny was asked why he wouldn’t perform in the US and whether it was because of the deportations of Latinos. The rapper agreed, saying there were many reasons behind this decision, and none of them was out of hate. He said:

“I’ve performed there many times. All of [the shows] have been successful. All of them have been magnificent. I’ve enjoyed connecting with Latinos who have been living in the US But specifically, for a residency here in Puerto Rico, when we are an unincorporated territory of the US.”

Bad Bunny said that people from the U.S., including Latinos and Puerto Ricans, could travel anywhere to see his concert. However, he and his team were worried because ICE officers might show up outside the event, which made them concerned.

In the interview, Bad Bunny also shared that despite his Hollywood fame, he has always remained true to his Puerto Rican roots. He said he could spend one day talking with people in Hollywood and the next day be back in his neighborhood, proudly showing his Puerto Rican culture.

He also mentioned that many Americans thought Puerto Rico becoming a U.S. state sounded good, but he told them it wasn’t like that at all. He said most of them didn’t mean harm as they didn’t realize that people in Puerto Rico were struggling and losing their homes.
