Donald Trump had tweeted about Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the early 2010s following the cheating scandal and split. Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she asked Pattinson about the incident while working on their next movie, Die My Love, on The Graham Norton Show on October 23, 2025.
When Lawrence appeared on The Graham Norton Show, she was asked about her bonding with her co-star Robert Pattinson, to which she replied:
“I mean, if you think I didn’t ask him about Donald Trump tweeting about the breakup with Kristen, obviously.”
She continued:
“It was, like, three days after the photos came out with her with, you know, whatever. Young people make mistakes. And Donald Trump was like, ‘He better leave her. He can do better than her,’ going on a huge rant.”
Guest star Jeremy Allen White, who stars on the TV show The Bear, had claimed that he “doesn’t remember that at all.”
The actress went on to say that the topic was brought up during the production of Die My Love, referring to Robert Pattinson as "one of the girls" because of how readily he gossiped in between takes. She explained:
“I had my girlfriends over. We were in our pajamas. We were watching Little Women [and] because Rob is one of the girls, he wants to gossip.”
She joked:
“He is one of the girls. So I was like, ‘Come over.’ He’s also like my daughter. He’s a great father, he’s a professional, he shows up on time, but I wouldn’t trust that he, like, put a coat on. He brings out a very maternal [side in me].”
The 2012 incident
In 2009, Robert Pattinson and Stewart started dating after meeting on the set of Twilight. Following the release of the images of Stewart kissing the director of Snow White and the Huntsman, Rupert Sanders, a movie she was a part of. Their cheating scandal became the focus of the media at that time. Kristen Stewart went on to apologise and release a statement:
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
Similarly, Sanders, who was married at the time, also released a public apology:
“I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”
After the incident, Robert Pattinson and Stewart reconciled but soon went their own ways in 2013.
Donald Trump's tweet
Long before he entered the world of politics, Trump had uploaded a series of tweets regarding the cheating scandal. He tweeted how Pattinson “should not take back” Stewart after the incident:
“She cheated on him like a dog [and] will do it again. She will cheat again – 100 certain – am I ever wrong?”.
Trump went on to tweet again five days later:
“Everyone is asking me to speak more on Robert & Kristen. I don’t have time except to say ‘Robert, drop her, she cheated on you & will again!’.”
A month later, he tweeted again:
“After Friday’s Twilight release, I hope Robert Pattinson will not be seen in public with Kristen – she will cheat on him again!”.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart respond years later
Stewart and Robert Pattinson, years later, spoke about Trump's tweets. In a 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Batman actor said:
"I think there’s so many different levels of it. Your identity exists on many different planes at the same time, and they all can be quite different from each other."
Robert Pattinson continued:
"Then he said that [about his breakup with Stewart], it didn’t really mean anything. But I guess now I’m sort of thinking, like, ‘Well, I guess that is related to me'."
He concluded:
"But how does that fit in with all the other things going on in my life? And sometimes you think, ‘Can I use this in my acting? Or should I be putting it away...' It’s kind of interesting, I guess. I don’t know - this could be why people get annoyed with me."
Stewart, on the other hand, used Trump's tweets as content for her 2017 Saturday Night Live monologue. She started with the joke:
"I’m a little nervous to be hosting because I know the president’s probably watching. I don’t think he likes me that much. Here’s how I know: four years ago I was dating this guy named Rob. Robert. We broke up and then we got back together, and for some reason it made Donald Trump go insane."
She continued:
“Now I know what you’re thinking, right? That’s so crazy! The president tweeted about you once! No, no, no. The president tweeted about me eleven times. I don’t think Donald Trump hated me. I think he’s in love with my boyfriend”.
Robert Pattinson concluded with:
“So yeah, that’s crazy, right? The president is not a huge fan of me. But that is so OK, and Donald, if you didn’t like me then, you’re really probably not going to like me now, because I’m hosting SNL and I’m like, so gay dude.”
Last year, in February, she told Rolling Stone:
“Of course he had to weigh in on my tarring and feathering. It’s like, ‘What is this 20-year-old who has no idea about life doing to this man?’ ”
She added:
“F--- you, b----!”
Years later, Stewart wed screenwriter Dylan Meyer in April 2015, while Pattinson is engaged to musician and model Suki Waterhouse. The duo welcomed a baby last year.
