Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has been thrust into the spotlight recently after users called him out for promoting his own channel and calling for "raids" on other streams.
As reported by Sportskeeda, Zach Bussey took to X on July 20, 2025, to share a screenshot of a comment that Clancy had left on another streamer's Twitch chat. The text, dated July 19, reads as follows:
"DJ Clancy: I am shamelessly going into chat of streamers I know to ask for raids when they are done. I am doing my first charity stream for St Judes as a part of the GCX Marathon. Not listening since I am streaming. I am going till 1am."
However, the streamer in charge timed Dan Clancy out of messaging for 600 seconds.
Everything we know about Dan Clancy's dubious fund-raising initiatives:
Several Twitch users reported seeing Clancy copy and paste the same texts across various other streams, including those of big creators like Gassymexican and Fanfan's chats. The two have a combined following of a million on the streaming platform.
In a follow-up tweet, Bussey slammed the former NASA employee for his role in self-promotion:
"It's 2025, and Twitch Partners are still self-promoting in people's chats. And before you ask... Yes, this is real. I verified with multiple mods + streamers in the place(s) where the self-promo occurred. So disrespectful, and ignores the most basic of Twitch etiquette."
Dan Clancy's moves are not in direct violation of the Twitch terms of service, seeing as self-promotion doesn't infringe on platform policy. That is, until it becomes "spam and other deceptive practices," which can "disrupt or interrupt the user experience."
Ethan Klein, a podcaster cum YouTuber, also took to Instagram to share a screenshot of the comment as he ripped into Clancy's antics:
"Dan Clancy (CEO of Twitch) caught begging for views in chat. What a f**king weirdo loser. I can't wait for him to be unemployed."
At the time of writing this article, the CEO of the platform has yet to issue a statement. However, he aimed to raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital through a broadcast that ran from July 14 to July 21. Dexerto has reported that the initiative has amassed over $350,000 in alms, with Clancy's four-hour broadcast alone raking in about $4,000.
Dan Clancy also made headlines just last month when he said he avoids using the term "gamer" when referring to the creators on Twitch. Instead, he calls them "people who game."
"They also put on makeup. They also eat food. They also like to listen to music ... So, I use the term people who game, because I think that term gamer gives you the wrong image of who these people are," Clancy said at an Axios event in Cannes at the time.
Dan Clancy also argued that Amazon-owned Twitch is "about connection with other people and community," despite its general reputation as a livestreaming platform.
