Internet personality DJ Akademiks is seemingly upset over Van Lathan’s comment about Hulk Hogan. In one of the recent episodes of his Higher Learning podcast, a clip of which Lathan shared on his Instagram, he said that Hogan did not have a life well lived. He mentioned:
“Hulk Hogan was hero to me as a child.”
Van Lathan remembered the WWE legend as a “larger than life” figure, calling him a superhero. He remembered how Hogan would come down the aisle and rip his shirt as he began the wrestling matches. However, Lathan said that he realized that Hulk Hogan was a self-centered performer and would undermine the union of professional wrestlers.
He made this claim based on a story that came out about the WWE legend. Lathan said some people loved Hogan, but he couldn’t remember him fondly. The video posted on Instagram was captioned:
“Hulk Hogan was a superstar. But his life was NOT well lived. I hope yours is.”
Meanwhile, during one of his livestreams, DJ Akademiks seemingly took a dig at Van Lathan for his remarks against Hogan. He implied that it was easier to talk about all these after he was dead and not while he was alive. Akademiks said:
“You ready to talk about now, we smoking on the Hulk pack, we doing this, we doing that because here’s the thing. I didn’t hear none of these ni***s protesting that much when he was alive but as soon as he dead, the pulse stopped. Everybody got a story to say.”
What more did DJ Akademiks say about Van Lathan’s comments about Hulk Hogan?
DJ Akademiks reacted to Van Lathan’s video about Hulk Hogan by saying that everyone has a story, good or bad. He felt that if people had strong negative feelings about someone, they should have spoken up while that person was still alive instead of waiting until they passed away.
He didn’t like how people stayed quiet before but suddenly started speaking ill after the person was gone. He said:
“I ain’t defending Hulk, but I am just seeing too many ni**as pop up like they ready to smoke the Hulk pack like they on a hook-a-thon. I have never seen ni**as keep the energy when he was alive. You gotta keep the energy alive.”
DJ Akademiks went on:
“I am not defending Hulk. I am defending because me, I like to know what type of time people on. Are we smoking on ni**as who dead?”
DJ Akademiks said his reaction was not about Hulk Hogan but about how people perceived death. He then played Van Lathan’s video and said he didn’t like what he said about Hogan, adding that Lathan kept the same energy with others.
DJ Akademiks suggested that Van Lathan can make a list of all people he would like to talk about after they die. He said this would give those people a type of notice before they die so that they also get a chance to talk about him.
