Actor and TV personality Whoopi Goldberg recently spoke about her retirement plans. On September 9, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Goldberg on the set of The View, where she said that she was proud that she could get so far in her career. The 69-year-old comedian, who has a net worth of $30 million as per Celebrity Networth, was asked if she ever wanted to retire, to which she said:

“Yeah, but who can afford to do that? Who can afford to start? You know, if you don't marry well, you got to keep working.”

The interviewer said that she was one of the few people who could afford to retire by now, but Goldberg argued:

“No, not by now. Not yet.”

She also said that she had to keep paying her bills. In 2024, while discussing Donald Trump’s presidential victory on the show, Whoopi Goldberg explained why she had to keep working, as she said:

“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me too, yeah. I work for a living. If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here.”

She said that she was a working person and that her child needed to feed her family. Similarly, she said her great-granddaughter had to be fed by her family. Goldberg said it was a difficult situation.

According to an Entertainment Tonight report from November 2024, Whoopi Goldberg’s annual salary as the talk show host was between five and six million dollars.

Whoopi Goldberg talks about her mother, love, and being confident

In 2024, the talk show host released her memoir, Bits and Pieces, a book that explored her family and career. During a conversation with Seth Doane on CBS News 24/7, she was asked about her EGOT status. She said:

“I think, you know, from the beginning of my career, I've always done stuff that I wanted to do. So, I got my Grammy for my show I think the recording of my Broadway show.”

Whoopi Goldberg then discussed her Tony, Emmy, and Oscar awards. Speaking about the lessons she got from her mother, she said:

“For me, it was a great time and to be able to have the freedom with a mother who really just said, ‘Listen, you're going to have to figure some of this out for yourself. I can't give you all the answers.’”

She said, unlike others, she had only one parent, who acted like “900 people.” Goldberg said her mother was never concerned about what they didn’t have, but rather about what they had.

Seth Doane asked Whoopi Goldberg if she still loved the idea of being in love. She explained that while other people seemed to shine when they were in love, she felt she shone more when she wasn’t. Speaking about confidence, she said:

“I'm very confident but I'm also confident in the fact that I make gigantic mistakes and step in lots of poo along the way.”

Whoopi Goldberg said she grew happier as she got older and made it clear to people online that she already knew she was attractive, so they didn’t need to say she wasn’t good enough to have a boyfriend.
