Zoe Saldaña is one of the highest-grossing actresses of all time. She is currently second on the list to Scarlett Johansson as Saldaña's films have earned approximately $15.55 billion across global box offices, according to reports from IMDB. Her net worth is currently estimated at 60 million USD, as per Celebrity Net Worth.
Zoe Saldaña owes her success to portraying Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise as well as in other projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), her leading role in James Cameron’s transcendent Avatar series, as well as the Star Trek reboot, among other heralded works.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Saldaña opened up about what the next phase of her career may look like as she opens herself up to new opportunities.
“Maybe I want to write a story. I would love to see if I have it in me to create a meaningful story that others will want to be a part of. Because I am a storyteller — I grow from stories. I am saved from within because of stories. And I want to continue telling them.”
Zoe Saldaña on being an artist, more
During her conversation with PEOPLE, Zoe Saldaña also opened up about dealing with rejection as an artist, an element of her craft that is unchanged even after all of her past success.
“I don’t like the word hustle; it has such a connotation. But you have to be determined and persistent. To be an artist means that you’re going to get rejected a lot more than you are accepted.”
Apart from continuing to build upon her body of work as an actor and potentially writing, Saldaña also shared her enthusiasm for another potential upcoming project helmed by James Cameron.
The rumored film is a documentary intended to shine a light on the technical, behind-the-scenes framework that allowed Cameron, his cast, and crew to truly push the creative envelope with the conception of the Avatar series.
“I’m excited that [James Cameron] is considering a documentary about the making of Avatar. It gives us the chance to explain, in a meticulous way, why performance capture is the most empowering form of acting.”
Zoe Saldaña continued,
“With the technology that he creates — because Jim’s really a scientist, in addition to being a storyteller — he gives us the ability to own 100 percent of our performance on screen.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash, the series's third entry, is set to hit theatres in mid-December.
