HBO’s docu-series revealed Nicki Clyne’s first public comments on NXIVM and Mack’s arrest

HBO’s The Vow peeled back the layers of NXIVM, the so-called self-improvement group that was eventually unmasked as a cult led by Keith Raniere. The series also traced the downfall of Allison Mack.
In the opening episode, Tests of Loyalty, viewers heard from Nicki Clyne. Nicki had spoken publicly for the first time about her connection to NXIVM and the moment her life shifted when Mack was arrested in April 2018.
“We were moving when they came to arrest Allison,” Clyne said in the episode.
“This guy came up to me and shows me his badge and he's like, ‘Is Allison Mack in there?’ And when she saw [them], I was like, ‘Allison, they are here to arrest you.’ And she just started shaking.”
What followed was a brief but surreal moment, as Clyne tried to help Mack comply with the authorities.
“I was like, ‘What do you need?’ And they were like, ‘She needs shoes without lace. She needed to take off her jewelry,’” Clyne recounted.
At the time, Clyne didn’t realize it would be a final goodbye.
“I thought I was going to see her later that day. I don't even think I gave her a hug. I was just like, ‘I'll see ya in a little bit.’ And that was it, It’s been a very isolating experience without Allison and also without Keith.” she shared.
Allison Mack issues emotional apology for her role in NXIVM:
Ahead of her sentencing, Allison Mack had expressed remorse for her involvement in NXIVM, as per a letter obtained by Us Weekly.
“It is now of paramount importance for me to say, from the bottom of my heart, I am so sorry,” she wrote to NXIVM survivors.
She continued:
“I threw myself into the teachings of [NXIVM leader] Keith Raniere with everything I had. I believed, wholeheartedly, that his mentorship was leading me to a better, more enlightened version of myself. I devoted my loyalty, my resources, and, ultimately, my life to him. This was the biggest mistake and greatest regret of my life.”
Mack further stated:
“I am sorry to those of you that I brought into NXIVM. I am sorry I ever exposed you to the nefarious and emotionally abusive schemes of a twisted man. I am sorry that I encouraged you to use your resources to participate in something that was ultimately so ugly. I do not take lightly the responsibility I have in the lives of those I love and I feel a heavy weight of guilt for having misused your trust, leading you down a negative path.” she added.
Allison Mack's recent marriage marks a quiet but notable step in her efforts to rebuild her life following her conviction and prison sentence.
