Bam Margera’s road to sobriety had been anything but smooth. According to Us Weekly, the former Jackass star went through several treatment programs before marking a year of sobriety in May 2022. Just a month later, however, he reportedly walked away from an inpatient rehab center in Florida after growing dissatisfied with the program.

It wasn’t until August 2023, two months after meeting his now-wife, fitness professional Dannii Marie, that Margera found lasting stability. As reported by the Daily Mail, he admitted that substance abuse had driven him to his “own rock bottom,” crediting Marie with helping him stay clean and focused.

“My wife is a stretch coach and a nutritionist ,”

Margera shared, describing her influence on his life.

Reflecting on his past, the former reality star acknowledged that he “took off a decade to basically party” before deciding it was “never too late” to make a change. He praised Dannii Marie, who he said “hates drugs and alcohol and is a stretch coach,” for guiding him toward sobriety. In recent headlines, Bam Margera even offered advice to Britney Spears, urging her to reevaluate the people around her if she wanted to move her life in a better direction.

Bam Margera reaches out to Britney Spears, says he understands her struggles:

Bam Margera had some heartfelt advice for Britney Spears: take stock of who’s really in your corner. During a conversation with TMZ in Los Angeles, the Jackass alum was asked about the growing concern for Britney Spears after she was recently photographed at a bar in Thousand Oaks. Bam Margera revealed that he had been sober for more than a year and had even thought about stopping by Spears’ home to offer guidance.

“I've reached a year — September 28th is my sober day — but like, when I was with Lamar Odom, Britney's house was right down the street, I'm ready to just knock on that door and say, ‘Hey, if you want help, it's right here,’” he shared.

Drawing from his own experience, Margera spoke candidly about the confusion that came with fame and addiction.

“I was in the same situation. I didn’t know who to believe, I didn’t know who to trust, and finally, when I deleted everybody from my life that was, you know, in a negative way, or always trying to tell me to get help, as soon as I deleted them, I don’t need any more help,” he shared.

He said he “couldn’t be happier” living with a smaller group of “tight, positive, sober friends.” The West Chester native also showed a personal connection to Spears’ story, a tattoo on his arm inspired by her 2000 hit Oops!... I Did It Again.

“I have her tattooed right here that says, ‘Oops, they did it to me too, I totally get it.” he explained, referencing his own time in treatment and guardianships.

Bam Margera reflected on how society handles addiction, saying he believed the traditional approach to treatment was outdated.

“Their only solution is ... treatment, lock them up for 90 days, so you're constantly walking on eggshells, and as soon as you get a moment of freedom, all you want to do is get as [intoxicated] as possible to forget how you even got into the situation,” Margera said.

He explained that substance abuse had brought him to his “own rock bottom,” but credited his wife, fitness professional Dannii Marie, for helping him stay clean and focused. According to a Complex report from May 2024, the couple said their vows in Socorro County, New Mexico, with Margera’s manager, Mike Quinn, confirming the news to TMZ. The Jackass alum became emotional during the ceremony, telling Dannii Marie,

“[You] made me stop drinking and got me back to skateboarding, and I cannot thank you enough.”

Soon after, Bam Margera celebrated the milestone on Instagram, writing,

“Danielle Marie MARGERA, it’s official. To all family and friends there will be a November wedding in Pennsylvania for everyone with a @yelawolf performance! Everyone is invited except Paul (head).”

Now, more than a year into sobriety, Bam Margera said he felt decades younger.

“I feel like I'm back in my 20s — skating better than ever, my legs are like 100 percent again,” he shared.

Margera also described the simple structure of his daily life since walking away from drugs and alcohol.

“All it takes is just stay out of the bar, wake up, go to the gym, walk a dog, find a skate trip, just do positive things, and, you know, now everything is back to being fun again — you know?” he said.
“I love it, and I do not miss drinking,” he added.
