I Prevail has parted ways with its lead singer-songwriter, Brian Burkheiser, on Thursday, May 15, 2025. The rock band released an official statement to announce the departure of its clean vocalist, who served as its frontman for over a decade. The band said:
“Today we share that we are mutually parting ways with Brian Burkheiser. This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is the right one and we are all grateful for the 10 epic years we shared together. We wish Brian nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”
The statement didn’t specify any reason behind the breakup. Brian Burkheiser has faced some health issues in the past, which previously kept him away from the stage. Last year in May, the Lifelines singer announced that he was recently diagnosed with Eagle Syndrome. He underwent multiple surgeries earlier that year and was still in the recovery process then.
According to the National Library of Medicine, the rare condition is a consequence of an “elongated or disfigured styloid process.” Due to its “interference with neighboring structures,” one might experience cervical or orofacial pain. Per Cleveland Clinic, an elongated styloid process is the bone beneath one’s ear, which might trigger pain upon pressing nearby nerves.
Last year in May 2, 2024, Brian Burkheiser mentioned facing health struggles due to Eagle Syndrome for years before he discovered it. He shared his post-surgery pictures on Instagram and wrote:
“If I’m being honest, this disease has broken me over the last few years. I knew something was wrong dating all the way back to 2018, and it wasn’t until recently that I officially figured out the problem.”
Brian mentioned about suffering with pain through multiple tour cycles:
“I’ve pushed myself through multiple tour cycles trying my best to keep a positive spirit, but as the days passed by, the negativity and pain grew. I could write a book with the list of symptoms that come with this disease.”
Burkheiser also commended his bandmates for taking the charge in his absence:
“I’m incredibly proud of Dylan and Eric stepping up and taking over for me while I’m gone. You guys are in for a special show.”
Eric Vanlerberghe replaces Brian Burkheiser as I Prevail’s frontman
The Grammy-nominated rock band recently announced its lead singer's departure while also confirming his replacement. Eric Vanlerberghe will continue as I Prevail’s frontman after Brian Burkheiser’s exit. At the same time, he will be “backed up live” by Dylan Bowman, who has been doing the same at the shows the band has “performed without Brian.” I Prevail added:
“We will continue to deliver the high-energy shows that we’ve made a pillar of our band, and we will continue to perform all the bangers from our catalogue. All scheduled shows will go on exactly as planned.”
Many fans were quick to react to I Previal’s new announcement.
“No matter what, we ride,” a user reacted to the band’s decision.
“We love you! Best of luck to Brian!,” another user added.
“"Mutually"....wonder if it's his health again. Sucks. Wish them all the best,” someone wrote.
“Wishing everyone the best and trusting your decision. can’t wait for new music. nothing but love.,” another one said.
A user expressed their disappointment after the announcement:
“Oh my God! What a news update! Man that’s hard!”
Another user shared:
“I’m absolutely gutted.”
After Brian’s departure, the band is left with four members – Eric Vanlerberghe, Steve Menoian, Dylan Bowman, and Gabe Helguera. In its recent statement, I Prevail has also promised to drop new music soon, while it will also be performing at Welcome to Rockville 2025 on Saturday, May 17, in Daytona Beach, Florida.
