Charlie Sheen has opened up about his illicit past and the moment he decided to reform his life.
The Two and a Half Men actor, infamous for his former substance abuse habits and profanity, has been sober for eight years. In his new memoir, The Book of Sheen, he opened up about his drug use, HIV diagnosis, and seven stints in rehab.
The actor famously checked himself into rehab back in February 2011, prompting CBS Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television to put his sitcom on a hiatus. Deadline and ABC News reported at the time that the stint followed heavy partying that lasted for days and involved drugs.
“Due to Charlie Sheen’s decision to enter a rehabilitation center, CBS, Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Chuck Lorre are placing Two and a Half Men on production hiatus,” the three parties said in a statement at the time. “We are profoundly concerned for his health and well-being, and support his decision.”

Charlie Sheen celebrated his 60th birthday just last week. Speaking with Page Six about his milestone, and of still being alive, he said:
“A lot of this should be viewed as gravy. It’s borrowed time or my 10th life, because I think I get one more than all those cats. It’s absolutely not lost on me that a story like mine is usually only told … in memorial, you know what I’m saying?”
The actor's life is also set to come under the spotlight with the premiere of his Netflix documentary “aka Charlie Sheen,” which drops on Wednesday, September 9. Per the outlet, the actor admitted to signing up to films he didn't want to do to be able to afford his drugs:
“I was always pretty good friends with my dealers,” he said. “I know that’s funny. When you let him hang out, when you let him stay for the party, you usually get a better rate on the dope — but there is a connection because I was only doing those shitty films to keep funding the habits.”
He is now focusing on finding love amid his HIV diagnosis, which he said he has been taking care of.
“Oh my gosh, for so long [s*x] was all I cared about, or it was near the top of the priority list. And so I just saw [celibacy] as a needed break from those pursuits. That’s not me slamming the door on anything in the future. No, I would absolutely welcome some type of companionship.”
