Danielle Fishel has opened up about her struggles with breast cancer. The former child star spoke to People Magazine earlier this week, where she opened up about maintaining her optimism in the face of struggles. "I'm great," she said. "I mean, you still have regular doctor's appointments when you've just had cancer a year before. I just had a recent appointment with my oncologist. Everything's good. We're all clear."She continued, "I don't have to have another mammogram until next June. I'm in a really good headspace, and I'm just so grateful that I have my health and that I have my family. I have a lot to be grateful for, especially this year." The actress was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), an early stage of breast cancer, in August last year. She told the outlet in October that year that she had to undergo a lumpectomy and a margin revision surgery as part of her treatment. She finished her last round of treatment early this year. Danielle Fishel's health struggles explored: During her conversation with People Magazine in October 2024, Danielle Fishel admitted that she considered getting a double mastectomy. However, she was advised to opt for a lumpectomy instead, because the disease had been caught early on and was the best way “to get back to my normal life as quickly as possible.” Danielle Fishel is most known for having portrayed Topanga Lawrence on "Boy Meets World." In January this year, she opened up about "feeling the effects" of 20 rounds of radiation. On an episode of her podcast at the time, she said she suffered from "bad sunburn" and rashes, which are "very itchy and also you can't itch it, because if you even come close to touching it, you want to cry. It hurts to wear a bra, it hurts to not wear a bra," she said. "It hurts to sleep on my side, it hurts to sleep period. It hurts to be awake. It hurts to live right now. But, you know what, it's not going to last forever. Physically, every day now I'm supposed to be getting better." Danielle Fishel also said she felt "so, so fatigued" at the time, and "very stinking tired." Back when she opened up about her diagnosis, she urged her followers to do their annual mammograms. "The only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment," she shared. "…They found it so, so, so early that I'm going to be fine. And so I want to share this because I hope that it will encourage anyone to get in there."Stay tuned to SoapCentral for more.
