Veteran television host and producer Ellen DeGeneres, in late July 2025, at the Cheltenham Everyman Theater in Cheltenham, England, decided to take part in an impromptu Q&A session in front of 700 people. She talked about many things, from her early days in the entertainment industry to her 2020 toxic workplace culture allegations to her future endeavors. The 67-year-old Ellen DeGeneres also discussed how she moved from her Montecito, California, residence to the English countryside.

Ellen DeGeneres, who, besides being a renowned television host, is also a comedian, actress, and writer, hosted the immensely popular talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show for 19 long years, from 2003 to 2022. Ellen, who has been married to Australian-American former actress Portia de Rossi since 2008, faced major criticism for toxic workplace accusations in 2020, according to a report by Buzzfeed News.

The report stated that Ellen mistreated and intimidated her employees and crew members of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. After an internal investigation into the matter, the veteran talk show host acknowledged the accusations and apologized to her staff, taking full responsibility. However, as per US Weekly, Ellen, along with her wife, Portia, officially shifted to the Cotswolds, a region in England, in November 2024. Ellen, regarding the place, said:

"It’s absolutely beautiful. Everything here is better."

The couple bought a reported $26 million, 10,000-square-foot residence named Hiaven, currently available for sale for $30 million. According to an insider source, Ellen is quite satisfied and happy with the place and spends her time tending to farm animals. The insider source informed US Weekly:

"It’s a different lifestyle for her. She’s very chill and in her element."

While Ellen and Portia's initial plan to stay in England was temporary, they had a change of heart when Donald Trump was elected as the president in 2024, and decided to stay back permanently. However, now that it has been a while since they moved to England, the insider source shared that relocating to the Cotswolds has brought the couple a lot closer to one another. The source said:

"There’s less work stress and more shared activities. It’s a calmer Ellen, so she’s easier to be around. And Portia is really enjoying it. Portia quit acting a long time ago, so she wasn’t leaving her career. She was already scaling back."

Following the 2020 controversy regarding the toxic workplace allegations, according to the insider source, DeGeneres felt she was "pushed out" of Hollywood. The insider added:

"Ellen feels very burned by how the world turned on her."
