When did Emma and Bruce Willis tie the knot? Die Hard star’s wife emotionally recalls learning of his dementia diagnosis

Bruce Willis and Emma Heming Willis tied the knot on March 21, 2009, in Turks and Caicos. The two renewed their vows on their 10th wedding anniversary at the same location.

In the preview for Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey Special, which is set to air on August 26, Emma tears up as she talks to ABC News' Diane Sawyer about Bruce's dementia diagnosis.

"I was so panicked, and I just remember hearing it and just not hearing anything else. It was like I was free-falling."

The preview comes ahead of her upcoming book release, in which Emma Willis details becoming a caregiver after the 70-year-old took a backseat to focus on his health. The pair tied the knot in 2009 and share daughters, Mabel and Evelyn. Bruce also shares three daughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, with ex-wife Demi Moore.

In 2022, Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder that affects the ability to communicate. At the time, his loved ones released a joint statement detailing his health, and also noting that he has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. The statement which was shared on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration Website, read,

"As a family, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for the outpouring of love and compassion for Bruce over the past ten months."

The statement continued,

"Since we announced Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia in Spring 2022, Bruce's condition has progressed an now we have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces."

On March 21, 2009, the two tied the knot and made their red carpet debut as a married couple on May 4, 2009. On April 1, 2012, the two welcomed their first child together, and a second child on May 5, 2014. On February 27, 2023, Emma took to Instagram to share that she's receiving help from a dementia specialist, after her husband's diagnosis, before the two's 16th marriage anniversary on March 21, 2025.
