Erin Moriarty took to Instagram on Friday to share news on her health, revealing that she had been diagnosed with Graves' disease back in May. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Graves' disease is an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid glands in the body, leading to symptoms like shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat, among others.
Erin Moriaty rose to fame in 2019 with her role in the Amazon Prime hit series "The Boys," where she played the iconic character of Annie January, also known as Starlight, across four seasons.
More about Erin Moriarty's diagnosis, as the actress opens up about dealing with an autoimmune disease
Erin Moriarty informed her fans through a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday that she was diagnosed with Graves' disease last month. In the caption, she wrote that she had been experiencing extreme fatigue and stress in the months leading up to her diagnosis, although she could not initially understand the cause. She said:
“Autoimmune disease manifests differently in everybody/every body. Your experience will be different from mine. My experience will be different from yours. Perhaps greatly, perhaps minutely."
She further added that shortly after her diagnosis, she began to feel better, and "felt the light coming back on."
“One thing I can say: if I hadn’t chalked it all up to stress and fatigue, I would’ve caught this sooner. A month ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Within 24 hours of beginning treatment, I felt the light coming back on. It’s been increasing in strength ever since."
In her post, Erin Moriarty included a screenshot of a text conversation with her mother, where she had mentioned that she was suddenly feeling nauseated. In her post, she further urged her fans not to delay treatment and seek immediate medical help for their condition. She said:
“If yours is dimming, even slightly, go get checked. Don’t ‘suck it up’ and transcend suffering; you deserve to be comfy. Shit’s hard enough as is.”
In 2023, Erin Moriarty experienced intense stress due to the scrutiny and rumors stemming from an alleged plastic surgery. In an interview with The New York Times, the "Jessica Jones" actress said:
"For a few months, I thought my career was over, because there was so much attention brought to something that I was told never to address."
She later further addressed the issue after Fox News presenter Megyn Kelly publicly commented on the matter. Erin Moriarty wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post, saying:
"This is something I truly never anticipated writing. We’re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things.”
Erin Moriaty is now gearing up for the fifth and final installment of "The Boys," which is rumored to be released sometime next year, although no official confirmation has yet been released.
