Joe Exotic's tumultuous love life has taken an intense turn.
The Tiger King star's husband, Jorge Marquez Flores, 33, was deported to Mexico on Friday, hours after he was set free from a prison in Texas. Maldonado had been incarcerated over immigration issues, The Guardian has reported.
Several outlets have reported that the pair tied the knot in April, as they announced the news at the time. However, in a new post on Instagram, Joe Exotic confirmed that he married Flores in November 2024, though the exact date remains unclear.
The 2020 Netflix true crime documentary alum, legally known as Joseph Allen Maldonado, has since begun lamenting over the debacle as he took to X to appeal to President Trump for help. Noting that he has already "suffered enough," he requested that he be released from federal prison. In his post, he penned:
“They have officially taken him to an ICE detention centre for his hearing to either stay in America or go back to Mexico," he said in a post. In a follow up post, he added, "@potus @stephenm don't you think between losing my life's work. It’s really past time to have one of your people watch Tiger King Season 2, where they all admitted to perjury and a plot to kill me on world television and let me out." He added, “I know that you are not fond of my lifestyle, but I supported you just to allow me go to Mexico with my husband.”
Referring to members of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Joe Exotic said in his tweet:
“The Ice agents didn’t understand why he got sent back so fast. He had a hearing scheduled for tomorrow. @realdonaldtrum Just let me go to Mexico and you can keep Carole Baskin”

The Guardian has reported that Joe Exotic is currently behind bars for 21 years in Oklahoma, as he was convicted of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot against Baskin, who is his rival and an activist cum animal rescuer. He was sentenced five years ago.
Per the outlet, he was initially sentenced to 22 years, but a year was axed after he kicked off treatment for his early-stage prostate cancer. He reportedly went into remission in July 2022, but the ailment made a comeback earlier this year.
Exotic, a former tiger trader, and his beau met behind bars, where Flores was serving time for reportedly reentering the United States after being deported once before. According to documents obtained by The US Sun, he was also driving a vehicle that harbored six undocumented immigrants across the border.
Their engagement was announced this October, with both of them showing off their wedding ring tattoos as a symbol of their commitment, Joe Exotic told Radar at the time. They then tied the knot at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Speaking to the outlet, Joe Exotic expressed hopes that his husband would be granted US citizenship after they got married.
"Never been more proud of someone. Meet my husband, Jorge Flores Maldonado," Joe wrote on social media at the time, according to USA Today, alongside a photoshopped photo of the pair sporting tuxedos and matching white hats, standing beneath a floral arch.
According to The Independent, Trump has aggressively been pushing for an anti-immigration agenda that has already seen thousands get deported in his first 100 days in office.
