The original Freaky Friday film, starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, premiered on December 17, 1976. In a recent interview with Variety, Foster revealed that ChatGPT is not aware of her involvement in the film.

Foster said,

"You know who forgets that I was the original Annabel in Freaky Friday? AI."

She went on to explain,

"If you go on to ChatGPT, or any of those things, and you say like, 'Hey, what are the Freaky Friday movies? They say there was an original, which is the 'original' with Jamie Lee Curtis, and then there's the second one that -just came out. And they don't mention me."

The film franchise centers on stories of body swapping between parents and children who have had a disagreement. The original Freaky Friday, starring Jodie Foster, came out in 1976, and the movie has since had further adaptations. The movie was released again with the same body-swapping plot but different characters in 1995, in 2003 starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, in 2018, and again in 2025.

Which character does Jodie Foster play in Freaky Friday (1976)

Jodie Foster plays the role of Annabel Andrews, the daughter. In the film, Annabel quarrels with her mother, Ellen (played by Barbara Harris), and then heads out for a Thursday night with her friends. As the mother and daughter go about their own ways, they both exclaim, "I wish I could switch places with her for just one day," leading to a body swap.

The movie then follows Ellen navigating high-school life in the body of Annabel, while Annabel navigates a life at home balancing household responsibilities and chores.

Jodie Foster was later offered a cameo in Freakier Friday, which was released in 2025. However, in an interview with Variety at the time, the actor revealed the reason she turned down the offer.

"I was busy doing this movie. But Jamie Lee Curtis is a really good friend of mine. I followed the shoot and all that stuff."

Her remarks came after Freakier Friday director Nisha Ganatra told Entertainment Weekly in April 2025 that the team "begged" Foster for a cameo appearance, but "she's not going to do it."

Freakier Friday marked the return of Lindsay Lohan and Kamie Lee Curtis, who starred in the 2003 adaptation of the film. The film is a sequel to the 2003 film and centers on the life of the mother-daughter duo two decades later.
