Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Porsha Williams has just finalised her divorce from her now ex-husband Simon Guobadia in June 2025, 15 months after the couple tied the knot. The reality star recently sat down with PEOPLE for an interview to clear the air and to dispel the notion that her marriage to Simon Guobadia was “fake” and based on money.

"People really thought it was fake! They thought I was just in it for the money, and none of our love was really real."

On her reaction to the split, Porsha Williams shared,

“We were connected... and I guess now I’ll have to care from afar”

Porsha Williams separates from husband Simon Guobadia

Porsha Williams famously took a 3 year hiatus from appearing on The Real Housewives of Atlanta after the hit Bravo series that helped make her a household name. As her time with Guobadia coincided with her exit from the show, fans sadly never got to witness their dynamic play out in front of the cameras.

The pair had a true whirlwind romance punctuated by two weddings in November 2022: a traditional Nigerian ceremony honoring Simon's heritage, followed by a lavish American celebration in Atlanta. Porsha Williams then filed for divorce shortly before filming season 16 of her reality show.

Porsha Williams then expanded on her thoughts regarding the split and what it signaled for her future.

"Look, you're not going to really get to know us from Instagram. And I know the fans, they were excited to see Porsha Guobadia on Housewives."

The RHOA standout continued,

"Okay, listen — I was too, You think I wasn't excited about bringing Porsha Guobadia and Simon Guobadia from Instagram to Real Housewives? Of course! We were going to have so much fun, and we were preparing for it together and all that! But life happened."

She continued by saying it wasn’t in her makeup to try and make the relationship work for the sake of the cameras and content,

"I'm not going to hold onto something and try to make a relationship work just so I could put it onto the show. That's not real."

Williams also made a point to address the allegations of her marrying Simon for his wealth,

"The people who thought I just got with him because he had money, maybe those people are new to Housewives or don't have Google or haven't looked up anything I've ever done, because I've always been a businesswoman. I was a businesswoman before I married my first husband. I just let it all go to be a wife. But then, after we divorced, I started all over again. Built my businesses again. So it really wasn't necessary that the man I get with be rich."

Fans of reality television are excited to have Porsha Williams back, one way or another. Season 16 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is currently underway and available to stream on Peacock.
