Canadian author Rachel Reid, known for writing Heated Rivalry, among other books, opened up about her journey with Parkinson’s. She was diagnosed in 2023. During an interview with Variety, published on December 30, Reid said that she has difficulty controlling the mouse. Not only that, but can't sit for long hours. As a result, she is constantly trying to find other ways of writing. However, it seems that the success of the series helped her in her Parkinson’s journey. Mentioning program creator Jacob Tierney’s interview with CNN, Rachel Reid said:“But an amazing thing that’s come out of this though is Jacob was on CNN a few weeks ago. For whatever reason, the interviewer asked him about my Parkinson’s diagnosis. I thought it was kind of odd, but then the next day, one of the top Parkinson’s experts in the world reached out to me and asked if he could help me.”Rachel Reid went on to say:“I’ve never gotten to talk to a Parkinson’s expert. I’ve been on a five-year waiting list here because I live in a very small place. Now he’s found me a Parkinson’s expert, a neurologist, and I have an appointment in a couple weeks. That could change things for me because I’m not really getting the treatment that I should be getting.”Rachel Reid said she received guidance in changing her medication. Although she struggled with sleeping at night, she was now able to improve that. Rachel Reid said it was “overwhelming” for her. This was more because writers are used to receiving such kind of attention. She mentioned:“I used to be in a rock band, and that’s an art that you make where you get your audience feedback right away live and you can feed off of it. But writing, even if it’s big and popular and you know a lot of people are reading it, you don’t know about it.”The author also said:“You don’t get that feedback really until something like this happens. And then suddenly it’s like, “Oh, I can actually get mobbed sometimes.” People are just very excited to meet me in a way that kind of confuses me, but I’m trying to get used to it.”Speaking about the series, Rachel Reid said that when she initially spoke to Jacob, she realized that he understood the characters in the story quite well. What viewers got to witness in the show was something that Jacob had entirely envisioned. She mentioned:“We talked about what we were going to have to do to make sure we got everything right, how the s*x was going to have to be an important part of the show and it was going to have to be explicit. He wouldn’t do it if he couldn’t do that.”Rachel Reid said that all Jacob wanted from her was to go through the scripts. Although it was something he could have easily done by himself, she said he still got her involved. Also Read: Did Winona Ryder want less screen time with Priah Ferguson?
