Singer Rita Ora and Taika Waititi got married on August 4, 2022. During a recent appearance on the Begin Again podcast, Rita opened up to host Davina McCall about how she broke tradition by proposing to Waititi.

While talking about how she proposed, Rita recalled how both of them were in Palm Springs. She said,

"I just did the whole thing. I rented a hotel room in Palm Springs. A really nice fancy one, filled it up with balloons — heart-shaped balloons and a heart-shaped cake, because I'm basically doing what I would have wanted for mine."

She remembered his reaction,

"He walks into the room and he's like, 'What the hell? Is it Valentine's Day?' I'm like ' Oh no, if you’re gonna say no, I’m gonna have to take my clothes off!' So anyway, I get down on one knee, and he was just like, 'What is happening?'."

Although she also added how she was apprehensive about him saying no, Taika, to her delight

"[He] said, 'Absolutely. What the hell, get up'."

The two tied the knot in a private ceremony on August 4, 2022, in Los Angeles. The singer and filmmaker first sparked dating rumors in 2021. In a September 2022 episode of the Greatest Night Ever, Rita opened up about the wedding, saying,

"I've always wanted the fairytale, that's what I grew up loving. For me, it was always about that love, finding a partner, so I'm really happy I did."

Before dating and becoming husband and wife, Rita Ora and Taika Waititi were friends for six years. The two started as friends and became romantically involved while working together in Australia.

During a 2023 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Rita Ora said,

"He's so great. We're friends, and we met long before we decided to ruin everything. We were friends for six years. It's a really cool dynamic and we both kind of do our own thing and I'm very happy right now."

The two sparked dating rumors in April 2021, when the singer posted a picture of them in an embrace on Instagram. A few months later, the two went public with their relationship and made their red carpet debut at the L.A premiere of The Suicide Squad.

They tied the knot in August 2022 in an intimate ceremony, according to a report by PEOPLE. While speaking on Heart Breakfast in January 2023, Rita Ora said that the wedding was 'really sweet' and apologized for it not being "that interesting".

The two also co-hosted the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards in Dusseldorf, Germany, and Waititi was the inspiration behind her 2023 studio album, You & I.
