Rob Reiner, who was found dead along with his wife on December 14th, was honoured in the final SNL episode this Saturday. They put up an old image of the director along with his name on the screen before the goodnight segment.

Rob himself has also hosted the long-running show. He was an SNL host on the third episode of the show ever, on October 25, 1975. He did multiple sketches, which weren't yet done by any host and was also joined by his then wife Penny Marshal in one of the sketches.

The cast back then was made up of Belushi, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Dan Aykroyd, Michael O’Donoghue, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, and Gilda Radner. There was also no musical guest in Rob Reiner's episode. However, John Belushi performed the song “With a Little Help From My Friends” while impersonating Joe Cocker.

Rob Reiner and his wife's double homicide

Reiner, who is known for making films like The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and Stand By Me, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found by their youngest daughter, Romy, with multiple wounds. The main suspect, who has been arrested, is their son Nick.

Nick has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is being held without bail. He is also on suicide watch while his arraignment is set for January. While capital punishment is being discussed for him, Nick will be represented by Alan Jackson, who is known for representing clients such as Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein.

The couple is survived by their two other kids.
