For Stevie Nicks, love and music had always moved in the same rhythm. In the 1970s, the Landslide singer was entangled in Fleetwood Mac’s internal storm, the now-legendary tale with Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood.

But as that chapter cooled, another began. As People reported, Stevie Nicks started dating Eagles co-founder Don Henley in 1977, soon after her brief connection with Fleetwood.

Don Henley opened her world to a new kind of glamour.

“He was responsible and I blame him every day. The Eagles had it down,” Nicks told Uncut magazine, looking back on her indulgent spending. "They had the Lear jets and the presidential suites long before we did and so I learnt from the best. And once you learn to live like that, there's no going back. It's like, 'Get me a Lear jet. I need to go to L.A. I don't care if it costs $15,000. I need to go now,’” she shared.

By 1978, their romance had ended, but the respect between them remained. Don Henley later joined her on “Leather and Lace,” one of the standout tracks from Bella Donna, her 1981 solo debut.

Decades later, Stevie Nicks found herself trending again, this time on X, after her 2024 CBS Sunday Morning interview resurfaced. In it, she spoke openly about her abortion during her time with Henley, a revelation that sparked debate and reflection among fans revisiting her story.

Stevie Nicks opened up about her abortion and her views on reproductive rights during the interview on CBS Sunday Morning. The Fleetwood Mac singer explained that her decision in 1979 to terminate a pregnancy was, in her view, crucial to the band’s continued success. The Grammy winner said she had taken precautions to prevent pregnancy, including using an IUD and working with what she called “a great gynecologist,” but still became pregnant while dating Eagles vocalist Don Henley.

“I’m like, ‘This can’t be happening,’” she told correspondent Tracy Smith.

“Fleetwood Mac is three years in and it’s big. And we’re going into our third album. It was like, ‘Oh, no no no no no.’ It would have destroyed Fleetwood Mac. Absolutely,” she explained.
Stevie Nicks said that although she would have done her “best to get through being in the studio every single day, expecting a child,” the situation “would not have gone over well” with bandmate and former partner Lindsey Buckingham.
“It would have been a nightmare scenario for me to live through,” she said.
“[Ultimately, the choice] was mine, and you know what? If people wanna be mad at me, be mad at me. I don’t care. Had I made the other choice, had I gone the other way, I would have been a great mom. I went this way, and I’ve done great,” she added.

In an earlier interview with The Guardian in 2020, Stevie Nicks had expressed similar thoughts, saying Fleetwood Mac might not have survived had she decided to keep the pregnancy.

“If I had not had that abortion, I’m pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac, there’s just no way that I could have had a child then, working as hard as we worked constantly. And there were a lot of drugs, I was doing a lot of drugs … I would have had to walk away,” she told the outlet.

Stevie Nicks said she felt it was her mission to continue making music with the band, which had two female lead singers and songwriters, because that would fit in with her hope of serving and saving more people around the globe.

“And I knew that the music we were going to bring to the world was going to heal so many people’s hearts and make people so happy, and I thought, ‘You know what? That’s really important. There’s not another band in the world that has two lead women singers, two lead women writers.’ That was my world’s mission,” she explained.
